About Dr. Shyamala Madhavi Arani Purushotham
Shyamala Arani Purushotham, MD, FACP, CPHQ, is a board-certified internal medicine physician, a member of the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association. She serves patients at Dr. Arani’s Passion Health Primary Care in Irving and Plano, Texas.
Dr. Arani completed her residency at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. After practicing internal medicine for three years after residency, Dr. Arani strongly believes that most of the hospitalizations are the consequences of a lack of affordable, compassionate, comprehensive primary care. She is passionate about providing the best possible care by connecting with each one of her patients.
Dr. Arani strongly believes in Sir William Osler’s quote “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease”.
Dr. Arani was born and raised in India, she graduated from Sri Venkateswara Medical College. She moved to the United States in 2012 after completing medical school in India. Outside of her practice, she spends her time making memories with her family, reading, and doing yoga.

Given the way of healthcare these days, I was amazed and grateful for the time and caring of Dr. Purushotham and her staff. They took to take a thorough medical history, answered all my questions, and explained options for medical care. Dr. Purushotham and her staff were warm and friendly. I felt like they really cared about me. It's been a long time since I've felt like my doctor saw me as a human being. And, I received excellent, thorough care. Dr. Purushotham herself called me the next morning, less than 24 hours later, with my bloodwork results. I am so impressed with Dr. Purushotham and her office. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Dr. Arani actually cared about what I had to say regarding my issues. She was happy to offer medicine or practice to treat issues as needed depending on my preference. The office is very calm and comfortable. Lastly, I've lived with pain and depression my whole life, but no doctor takes me seriously because I don't "look" like I'm in pain or that I'm sad. Dr. Arani listened and provided options rather than brushing it off because I'm smiling. I'm very happy to find a doctor who is going to take their time to listen and respond to the problems at hand. She also discovered some issues that I didn't know were present that no other doctor had noticed before.

The issue I had may have been a front office issue, I'm not sure, but I made clear in my initial appointment request that I live out of town and needed a bridge prescription that the State of Texas won't allow my psychiatrist to transmit from DC (as of 1/1/2021). A bridge prescription is clearly not asking a physician to diagnose me, write a new Rx, or in any other way be asked to become the main prescriber. It's to help on a short term basis. My psychiatrist was willing and ready to be contacted to verify the medical need, my history, everything. However, when the nurse first saw me and I told her the medication bridge Rx needed, she said "Oh, this doctor won't prescribe that medication." ...I panicked. While it did get worked out with the physician, that "no, she won't prescribe that medication" part of the experience was awful, it was exactly the scenario I tried to avoid by providing info in advance.

Excellent experience from the start. Several appointment reminders, a very kind and knowledgeable front desk staff. There wasn't a long wait before I was seen. Her nurse is great and thorough. Once the doctor came in, she was incredibly thorough and very good at explaining things to me. I'm so happy to have found my new doctor!
