Getting to know Dr. Stephanie Waggel
Attention Patients: Our office has implemented a policy for all patients. We offer superbills for insurance reimbursement and sliding scale options. As part of our practice policy, you will be charged a $50 non-refundable fee for booking your appointment. If you cancel, you may be subject to additional fees up to the total cost of the appointment. We legally cannot see Medicare patients, even if they pay out of pocket, due to Medicare laws and policies. You must be in the state of Virginia at the time of your appointment. Once you apply for an appointment, you will receive a "Due in 24 Hours" Adobe Sign form via email. Please complete it and watch for follow-up instructions.
Dr. Waggel is a mother, physician, author, motivational speaker, teacher, cancer survivor, marathon runner, and founder of Improve Medical Culture. She holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from George Washington University from where she also completed an internship, a Master's in Biology from Chatham University, and a Bachelor's degree from Chatham University. With over 14 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Waggel has lived in the DC area for more than ten years and enjoys serving the Northern Virginia community. She was named Physician of the Year in 2016 by Medscape. Her speaking topics include achieving life and career goals despite adversity, mental health education, tips for premeds and medical students, depression, addiction, stress, sexual assault, discrimination, and women's health issues.
Dr. Waggel has a large social media following and is very popular online. She enjoys working with young people, believing that helping them overcome today's barriers will create a better tomorrow. She has extensively studied psychopharmacology and psychiatric treatment modalities and specializes in treating depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and PTSD.

Dr. Waggel is incredible. She is attentive, engaging, and compassionate. Her care for her patients shines through in her sessions. My initial session felt like I was talking to an old friend. I can’t say enough about how comfortable I was from the first minute of our session. In addition, her abilities as a clinician are top-notch. After actively listening to and conversing with me, she was able to create a concrete plan that accomplishes my mental health goals, whether that goal was as big as “I want to be happy” or as precise as “what can I do to sleep better?” If you’ve read this far, then go ahead and schedule your appointment. I enjoy coming every visit because Dr. Waggel spends the entire appointment getting to know you & updates in your life & remembers the details each time. Everything is so finely turned to perfect care for mental health & she is always extremely friendly & kind. Even when recording weight the scale is set to kilograms, so I never feel nervous getting weighed.

I appreciate that she is always realistic provides notes on all our sessions, and backup copies of prescriptions in case the pharmacy loses the electronic version.
