Dr. Phlaum began the visit by scolding me for booking the appointment, cut me off when I tried to explain, and spoke in an annoyed, dismissive tone.
I booked online for routine pre-op clearance before a minor procedure because my cardiologist couldn’t see me in time. My records are in the same health system and I’m low very risk. That context was included the office accepted the appointment.
He said the situation didn’t “sit right” with him, said “They’ll see my note,” and ended the appointment abruptly, offering neither a goodbye nor even a brief well-wish for my upcoming procedure. I can’t speak to his clinical skill based on this visit, and I’m glad my experience appears a departure from others’ experience, but his manner and tone were enough that I would never return.

I didn’t feel like he necessarily took me seriously, he didn’t follow up with me or anything- he did one test and then called it quits. I just didn’t feel like he understood the severity of my situation. As a young woman I feel like my health wasn’t taken seriously because I’m not older perhaps.

The cardiologist I met with was not friendly, questioned why I was there even though I had new concerns. Everyone and everything else about my visit was great.

I’m sure he’s good at his job, I’m sure he’s a good doctor, but I don’t feel like my concerns were heard nor was I taken seriously. As a young, single woman, this is an issue faced constantly- that my concerns or frustrations or anxieties hold no validity. The very first thing he said when he opened the door was “you’re a perfectly healthy woman, why are you in my office?” It made me feel like I shouldn’t be there at all. I tried voicing my concerns, though I felt rushed and brushed off. He gave me an explanation and said “this is the sort of thing that gets better with age, like when you get pregnant you’ll feel relief”. He told me it’s my psyche. He told me to come back in a month (I will not) and to get an ultrasound done (also will not). Once he left the exam room, I heard him mumbling in a dismissive tone to his nurses about how I’m “perfectly healthy”. His nurses however, were fantastic, and kind, and the front desk staff in the lobby below were very helpful. Girls beware!

My appointment was fine! I was seen quickly and the staff was professional. I felt rushed by the doctor and didn't feel like he listened well or took his time with my questions-- I felt his answers could have used more explanation, and he was gone so quickly that I didn't have much time to process anything.

The doctor is amazing. But I had an 8am appointment I arrived at 7:30 am first in office first to check in I was not seen until 11:30. The wait is crazy to be seen for 20 mins. Short staff and this is the excuse used all the time. The doctor is awesome but I don’t know if a 4 hour wait is worth it
