About Dr. Steve Yu
Dr. Yu is a board certified Southern California-based gynecologist with 15+ years of experience. He offers full scope gynecological care to patients of all ages and specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) including invasive fibroid, urinary incontinence and vaginal rejuvenation surgery. Dr. Yu understands the complexities of the female anatomy from years of training, operating, and researching. He believes that each patients deserves the highest standard of quality care, respect, and compassion. As a recognized expert in his field, nationally distinguished speaker, former UCLA faculty and Fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), it is no wonder patients travel near and far to seek him out.
After finishing residency at Case Western Reserve University in 2008, Dr. Yu focused his medical practice on Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). Dr. Yu started his career in Whittier, California and after 4 years was recruited by UCLA due to his expertise in MIGS. During his tenure at UCLA as an Associate Professor, Dr. Yu performed the most MIGS in his Department. He has trained and taught nine classes of graduating chief residents and published numerous studies. Dr. Yu has also given many lectures and presentations at university hospitals and national conferences, such as American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL).
Dr. Yu’s philosophy for providing excellent surgical care to all women is based on uterine-sparing minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Yu does not perform hysterectomies unless it’s absolutely necessary, which is rare in his opinion. He firmly believes that women historically have been mistreated when it comes to gynecologic surgical care, evident by the disproportional number of women who have had their uteri and/or ovaries removed. He has performed over a thousand laparoscopic myomectomy procedures

Dr. Yu was one of the best doctors I’ve seen. He listened to me and gave me time to ask questions and talk through next steps for my needs. He made me feel seen and heard, and helped me plan out a treatment plan immediately after checking off all the tests. Other doctors I’ve seen just give me two minutes of their time and prescribed me a medication I didn’t want. I’d go back here and recommend it to anyone because of the friendly and professional environment, and the quick service. I was seen within 4 minutes of arriving.

Dr. Yu was so kind and had great bedside manner. As a young woman, seeing this kind of physician can be intimidating and scary. But he made sure I was always aware of what was happening and comfortable! He also took the time to talk to me about my concerns and took them seriously.

Dr. Steve Yu is the first male gynecologist I’ve seen and he was very quick with my pap and no discomfort other than the obvious of having your cervix swabbed. He was being direct, no sugar coating the answers to the questions I had lined up which is refreshing. The waiting room is clean and open. The receptionist that checked me in and did vitals was very kind and could tell I was nervous which I appreciated. I hope that I can continue with Dr. Yu and his team for as long as I can.

I had a great experience with Dr. Yu today! The wait time was less than 10 minutes. Dr. Yu was very polite and considerate — knowing that I’m not a native speaker, he used simple language and made sure I understood the names of the tests. The exam was gentle and very professional. Highly recommend!

This is no reflection of the doctor, but NOTE: this isn’t a place where you can get a mammogram. He will simply order one for you. I did get to see him and he was lovely and super helpful and respectful of my time. I’d visit if I was in his neighborhood.
