About Dr. Steven Bernstein

Dr. Bernstein earned his Doctor of Medicine from Brown University Medical School in 1995. After completing his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, he pursued a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. During his fellowship, he served as assistant team physician for the St. Louis Rams, Blues, and Cardinals.
Dr. Bernstein completed his fellowship in 2001 and practiced for three years in Silver Spring, Maryland. In August 2004, he joined Summit Orthopedics in Chevy Chase. He practices general orthopedic surgery with a focus on sports-related injuries. His specialty is arthroscopic surgery involving the knee, shoulder, and ankle. He has particular interest in shoulder instability, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, cartilage injury and restoration, patellar instability, and meniscal repair.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Bernstein currently resides in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with his wife Carolyn and their three sons, Henry, Jack, and Will. In his spare time, he enjoys playing squash and golf.

Many surgeons are quick to jump to the surgery option; I particularly appreciate that Dr. Bernstein really considered my injury and circumstances and sought the best course of treatment even though it wasn't surgical.

Brief ... but answered my questions ... told me what is wrong, what to do and if that doesn't improve my knee ... call him. Dr. Bernstein didn't recognize my knee or me from 2008 knee surgery. Oh well ... you seen one knee you have seen them all.
