My name is Susan Armour and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who graduated from the University of South Alabama. I believe in both psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy for symptom relief with its future benefits to be the most effective form of treatment. My areas of expertise are addictions, bipolar/depression, anxiety/panic disorders, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia, and insomnia. My approach I believe in both the psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy models for symptom relief as well as long-lasting effects. I use integrative treatment options tailored to your concerns. My goal is to empower you with the treatment, tools, and resources to obtain optimum mental wellness. My focus I really enjoy working with addictions/12-step recovery, bipolar, depression, schizophrenia and anxiety/panic disorder, insomnia, PTSD, and OCD. I work towards setting a tone that is open-minded, relaxed, and judgment-free. My communication style I strive to foster an environment of compassion and support, while also providing a private and confidential space. My journey to mental healthcare My mother suffered from depression and anxiety/alcoholism during my childhood, which is where my attraction to psychiatry started. I had my challenges as a result of my mother’s illness and found help and hope through professional services that further fostered my determination to work with others. My first degree was as a Occupational Therapist where I worked in mental health hospitals. Insurance eventually would no longer provide reimbursement for those services and thus I obtained my BSN in nursing. I continued to work in various psychiatric facilities until I obtained my master's in psychiatry as a nurse practitioner in 2012.
