About Dr. Susan Elisabeth Lawrence

Dr. Susan Lawrence is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, and has a special interest in the effect of childhood abuse and trauma on adult health. She graduated from Baylor College of Medicine and completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UTMB Galveston. In 1985 she opened her private practice of internal medicine and medical oncology in Lancaster, California. In 1993, following the death from AIDS of her husband Sonny Bartz, Dr. Lawrence launched the Catalyst Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the mission of providing free medical care and supportive services for people in the Antelope Valley living with HIV/AIDS. She served as Catalyst's Executive Director until 2013, when she began attending law school at Purdue University Global. She is now a licensed attorney, having passed the California Bar Exam in 2017. Currently, Dr. Lawrence combines her medical and legal degrees in working with California prisoners serving life without parole sentences in preparing clemency applications and assisting them with their unmet healthcare needs.
