Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry)
CA
I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and I have been practicing in the mental health field for over five years. My passion is working with individuals who are vulnerable and in a dark place in their lives; to be their advocate, and their voice. To be their safe place. I believe in meeting my clients where they are at, to provide a safe place for them to share their most intimate thoughts and feelings. I incorporate these theoretical approaches into my practice: personal talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and trauma-focused therapy. I work with ages 8 years and up. I treat individuals with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, ADHD, and PTSD. The environment is warm, calm, and compassionate. It's a judgment-free zone where I meet the client where they are. They are the driver of the bus, I am just the passenger helping with navigation on their journey towards healing. I have always had a passion for mental healthcare and working with this population of patients. However, my two inspirations for pursuing this passion were my husband and daughter. My husband was diagnosed with PTSD, as he is a combat veteran, and our daughter was diagnosed with schizophrenia. It was such a struggle to get them the care they needed, and as a loved one, that was very frustrating and heartbreaking. I realized that I needed to be their advocate, be their voice, to get them the care they both needed and deserved. It was going through this experience with them that I wanted to be an advocate and voice for the mental health population as a whole. I will continue to be their advocate and voice until the day I retire, which is a long way in the future. We discuss their goals together and what their expectations of treatment are, as well as what they want to accomplish during treatment. In addition, I always emphasize that they are the driver of their treatment, and I am their advocate and support system during their journey.

I booked this to discuss disability paperwork for trauma, depression, and anxiety and after our session I was told by Susan she would do the paperwork and she would be my new psychiatrist. Within 24 hours she emailed me saying she couldn’t do online paperwork. This would’ve been good to know before I saw her and had my insurance company pay for this appointment. When I emailed her this she cancelled my next appointment and ghosted me. This is the fourth healthcare practitioner that has given me incorrect information or been unable or unwilling to help me. I get the reasoning behind the challenge due to fraud but can a girl please just get some legit help when absolutely necessary? Needless to say it’s pretty discouraging. Doing everything in my power to help myself heal but this is like a full time job. Anyone have any solutions out there they could share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
