“DNP White is absolutely wonderful ! As a woman of color I find it difficult to find mental health care without feeling as if I’m subjected to bias. She actually LISTENS when I am speaking, and does not make me feel judged at all. 10/10 recommend ! ”

Getting to know Dr. Tameka White

Tameka White - Dela Cruz, DNP, PHMNP-C, ACNP-BC, is the founder of Mind Cafe NP in Psychiatry & Acute Care, PLLC. A New York-based practice offering tele-psychiatric and medical care that is rooted in clinical excellence, cultural responsiveness, and lived experience. Her work is informed by years of caring for individuals navigating unmet mental health needs, complex medical challenges, and systemic barriers to care. The practice is committed to thoughtful, whole-person care that honors patients’ stories and goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a comprehensive, evidence based approach to psychiatric and mental health care delivered entirely via telemedicine. All appointments are conducted virtually, offering accessible, high quality care from the comfort and privacy of your own space - without compromising the depth or quality of the clinical relationship. My practice is rooted in cultural responsiveness and lived experience. I believe that effective psychiatry care must account for the whole person including identity, background and systemic barriers that often shape mental health outcomes, Clients from historically underserved communities, including those navigating complex or co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions will find a space that is affirming, non- judgemental and clinical rigorous. Services include psychiatric evaluation, supportive therapeutic interventions and medication management, where appropriate. I have specialized experience in several focused areas including mental health care for individuals living with HIV, perinatal and postpartum mood disorders and ADHD across the lifespan.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At Mind Cafe, care begins with a comprehensive 90- minute evaluation designed to understand you beyond a diagnosis. This includes a thoughtful review of your mental health history, current concerns, medical background, and lifestyle factors that may be influencing your well being. My approach is collaborative, structured, and individualized. Together we develop a treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive care, collaborative care tailored to your needs. I prioritize clarity, education, and shared decision making so you feel informed and in control of your care. Follow up sessions focus on monitoring progress, refining treatment, and creating space for ongoing reflection and adjustment. While I do not provide formal psychotherapy, I incorporate therapeutic frameworks into our work to support insight, coping and behavioral change. Follow up sessions ( 30-60 minutes) provide space to refine your treatment plan, deepen understanding and support steady sustainable progress.
