About Dr. Thomas Dudrey
Thomas Dudrey, M.D., was born and raised in Northeast Portland. He became interested in medicine as a child, when he would go along with family members to visit their doctors. He saw how much the physicians were able to help his family, such as diagnosing and treating a growth hormone deficiency, or treating long-standing rheumatoid arthritis.
Doing research in biology in college, he knew from the start that patient care was what he wanted to focus on. Dr. Dudrey studied medicine at St. Louis University in Missouri as a student, and at the University of Washington at Boise as a resident, but always knew he would return to Portland.
Dr. Dudrey chose internal medicine because he wanted to enter a field that treats its patients — especially the medically complex or socially disadvantaged — as whole individuals. As a medical student, he often volunteered with underserved patients, and during his residency, he worked at the Boise VA hospital with veterans who often struggled with poverty and financial and social difficulties.
Dr. Dudrey practices at The Portland Clinic. His training impressed in him the value of listening, working with patients as they are, and collaboratively problem-solving with them to address their medical concerns. He also works collaboratively with a team of providers to provide more assistance than just one person can.
Dr. Dudrey enjoys spending time with family, reading, and visiting the outdoors. He also exercises regularly, both to stay healthy and to help wind down after work.
