“I've been seeing Dr. O'Conner for almost five years now. I couldn't suggest any doctor more! He's been there for me through some of the hardest times in my life, and helped me navigate and come through the other side in a better place than I started. He is personable and VERY knowledgeable. He's never pushed any specific medication or treatment on me, but explained thoroughly all pros and cons of each option. Available for Telehealth and In-Person visits. Easy to update pharmacy details. Dr. O'Conner has really gotten to know me over the years and I'm more than confident in his competency. It's clear that he really loves his field of work and has a passion to help others. If it wasn't for Dr. O'Conner, my life would look very different today. Thank you!”

Getting to know Dr. Timothy O’Connor

My name is Tim O’Connor, and I’m a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I completed both my medical education and psychiatric residency at the University of North Carolina. My background in education continues to shape how I practice, reinforcing my belief in each person’s capacity for growth. During my time at UNC, I was recognized for excellence in teaching, which still influences how I approach patient care today. I see my role as both a guide and an educator. I take time to clearly explain diagnoses, treatment options, and the reasoning behind my recommendations so you can make informed decisions about your care. There’s space in our work together for questions, discussion, and making sure things actually make sense to you. I approach treatment as a collaborative process. We work together to define goals that reflect what matters most to you, and I encourage open dialogue—including questioning recommendations if something doesn’t feel right. Lasting progress tends to involve more than symptom tracking alone, and I try to consider the broader picture, including cognitive, emotional, physical, and even spiritual aspects of wellbeing. I work with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma and PTSD, sleep disorders, impulse control issues, men’s mental health, and substance use, including addiction and dual diagnosis. My approach to medication management is part of a broader framework aimed at supporting sustainable mental health over time. I’m drawn to practicing in a setting that values integration and collaboration. My goal is to provide care that is thoughtful, transparent, and individualized, with an emphasis on helping you move toward greater stability and long-term growth.
