Dietitian
MI
Welcome, my name is Uma! I am a credentialed Registered Dietitian with a Master?s degree in Nutrition. My initial interest in nutrition sparked in high school when I watched every single food and nutrition documentary on Netflix. Admittedly, I was fully immersed in 2010s diet culture and on a mission to discover how I could eat the ?healthiest? and ?cleanest? in order to lose weight. Thankfully, my conceptions around nutrition vastly changed throughout college and graduate school. I learned more about nutrition in an academic setting and realized the importance of seeking evidence-based information. I solidified my understanding of the Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, Intuitive Eating framework, and idea of Eating Competence. I rejected fatphobia and diet culture and dismantled the idea of morality around food. I came to be at peace with my own body and healed my own relationship with food. I now desire to help others, particularly women and children, find peace with food and their bodies. My background is in clinical nutrition, so I am well versed in providing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and am prepared to support the nutritional needs of clients experiencing various health conditions (diabetes, renal disease, cardiovascular disease, GI distress, etc.). While I am not a weight-focused dietitian by nature, I am able to support clients who are interested in losing weight in a safe and effective manner. As someone who has been vegan/vegetarian for several years in the past, I am experienced in meeting the nutritional needs of such clients. As my client, you can expect to develop a liberating mindset around food and nutrition and learn how to fuel your body to feel your best. You will learn how to hone in on your body's internal cues and trust what your body is telling you. I will never tell you to cut out an entire food group from your diet or that certain foods are ?healthy? or ?unhealthy.?
