What should a new client know about working with you?

When more is needed. Some people don’t get where they want to go with medication and therapy alone. Our practice also offers TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and Spravato (esketamine) for treatment-resistant depression, and I’ll raise those if I think you’re a candidate, so we can escalate care without you starting over somewhere new. How I work. I’m collaborative and direct. I’ll tell you what I think and explain my reasoning, and I expect you to push back if something doesn’t sit right. Treatment works best when you’re a participant in it. Additional testing. When the clinical picture isn’t clear, I can order a BrainView qEEG — a non-invasive brain mapping and neurocognitive assessment. It records your brain’s electrical activity and compares it against a normative database. The test is quick and painless, done in office, with no radiation and no injections. Results give us objective data to supplement the clinical evaluation, which is especially useful when symptoms overlap across conditions such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, tinnitus, migraine, and PTSD. A qEEG does not diagnose these conditions on its own, but it adds another layer of information to help determine what may be driving your symptoms and to guide treatment

What is your typical process for working with clients?

What is your typical process for working with clients? Your first visit. We start with a full psychiatric evaluation, typically 60 minutes. I’ll ask what brought you in and what you’re hoping to change, along with your symptom history, past treatments and how you responded, medical and family history, sleep, and substance use. I use measures like the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 where they’re helpful, but those inform the picture rather than define it. Most of the visit is conversation — I want to understand you as a person, not a symptom list. Diagnosis and planning. I’ll share my clinical impressions in plain language, including where I’m confident and where I’m still forming a picture. Diagnosis isn’t always settled on day one, and I’d rather say so than hand you a label that doesn’t fit. I will also consult with my supervising psychiatrist, Dr. Germaine Hawkins, DO, to create the ideal treatment plan for you. We build that plan together — I’ll walk you through the options, trade-offs, side effects, and a realistic timeline, and you decide what you’re comfortable with. Follow-up visits. Medication management visits run 20–30 minutes: we review how you’re doing, track your measures, adjust, and troubleshoot side effects. If you want more than a medication check-in, I offer extended visits that combine medication management with psychotherapy in the same appointment, drawing on cognitive behavioral and supportive techniques.
