About Dr. Yuriy Shevtziv
Philosophy of care
I’m a primary care physician, so I treat the patient as a whole and address all needs, whether physical, mental, or social. Specialists such as cardiologists may specifically treat the heart, or pulmonologists may treat the lungs. Primary care physicians treat the whole body from top to bottom. We identify the nature of the problem and address it or, if called for, refer a patient for more specialized care. I enjoy what I do because I like to help patients and prevent diseases before they start.
Why I entered medicine
I wanted to help people and I like to interact face-to-face, so I always had a passion for medicine. It’s rewarding to help someone directly with my skills, mind, and know-how, so to speak. And I like the long-term relationships that come with primary care. I treat people from ages 16 to 90 or even 100, and I get to know their families and kids. It’s very rewarding to take care of entire families.
Education and training
I earned my Doctor of Medicine degree from Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. I completed my internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Easton Hospital, which prepared me well for comprehensive primary care.
Community involvement
I sing in a church choir and am involved in church life. I like to sing and enjoy music in general.
Personal interests
I enjoy skiing in winter and playing soccer in summer. I belong to a recreational soccer league of people above 40. We’ve been playing together for more than 12 years, mostly on weekends. For skiing, I like to go out West to the Rockies. I pick a different place each year, such as Big Sky, Montana; Snowmass, Colorado; Snowbird, Utah; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and go for a week at a time. Locally, I enjoy taking my kids to Blue Mountain and Camelback.
