About Dr. Zhenyu Zhou

Dr. Zhenyu (Joe) Zhou is a licensed acupuncturist and neuroscientist. He is trilingual, proficient in English, Japanese and Chinese . He earned his medical degree from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China and completed his Ph.D. in neuroscience at Kanazawa University in Japan. He underwent residency training in Acupuncture, Orthopedic surgery, and Neurology in China and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Texas-Houston Medical School in the United States. Dr. Zhou has worked in the field of brain research at institutions such as New York Medical College, the University of Pittsburgh, Columbia University, and Weill Cornell Medical College. His research interests include synaptic mechanisms, therapeutic solutions for neurological diseases, pain, memory, and learning. He has a strong publication record in reputable scientific journals, including Neuron, PNAS, and the Journal of Neuroscience. Throughout his career, Dr. Zhou has written prolifically and built a strong record of publishing in refereed journals. His work has been well-received at international conferences, and he has served as an experienced project leader and entrepreneurial scientist. In addition to his expertise in acupuncture therapy, Dr. Zhou has extensive experience in neurophysiology, nerve conduction technology, electrophysiology, live cell imaging, optogenetics, brain slice physiology, and more. He is also an experienced lab manager with outstanding surgical skills, strong engineering skills, and excellent communication skills.
