Getting to know Dr. Zorica Filipovic-Jewell

I am deeply committed to the well-being of my patients. My approach is thorough and compassionate, and I strive to provide the highest quality of care to each individual. I utilize psychotherapy, and medication management when indicated. I adjust my approach to meet the needs and concerns of each individual. I primarily see patients in my Midtown New York City office. I am conveniently licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, which gives my patients great flexibility across all three states. About me: Zorica Filipovic-Jewell, MD, holds double board certification in General Psychiatry and Neurology, and in Psychosomatic Medicine. She received her training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. This expertise allows her to treat a variety of patients, including those with complex medication regimens, medication side effects, medical conditions, perimenopausal and menopausal problems, postpartum and other conditions. Dr. Filipovic-Jewell is trained and skilled in providing highly effective IFS (Internal Family Systems), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). She additionally received training in psychoanalysis at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education at New York University. Dr. Filipovic-Jewell has served at Mount Sinai Hospital as an Assistant Clinical Professor, treating psychiatric patients with medical illnesses and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows at the Icahn School of Medicine. Patients mostly appreciate her warm and compassionate approach, as well as her cutting-edge skills, which make working with her both pleasant and effective.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My philosophy is shaped by my background in Psychosomatic Medicine. As such, I see and care for individuals in their completeness, with a particular focus on the interrelation of mind and body. This perspective allows me to address both psychological and physical aspects of health. I use psychotherapy, and medication management, when indicated. My additional focus is providing my patients with essential skills that support emotional and psychological well-being. I teach them how to Process and Regulate Emotions, Self-Awareness, Emotional Resilience, Effective Relationship Skills, Healthy Boundaries, Cultivating Self-Compassion, working on a proper sleep, proper nutrition and proper physical activity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer a 15 minutes free phone consultation. This where we can see if the fit is right, and you can use this time to ask any question you may have. After that, we will meet for the first visit, in-person or via HIPAA approved telehealth. First visit is 60 minutes long with the focus on getting to know you and gathering information about the problem that you want to address. This is done in a non-judgemental and compassionate manner. At the end of this visit, we will come up with the treatment plan collaboratively. We will set up the goal and work towards it with regular assessments of progress.

Dr. Filipovic Jewell is treating my depression for past year. She takes time to listen and meet you first, I felt that she approached me on a deeper level than psychiatrists before, she "got me right". My depression is much better now thanks to Dr. Filipovic Jewell.
