Psychologist
CA
Hi there, I'm Aileen! I am a licensed psychologist trained in neuropsychology, with a PsyD and Master's from The Chicago School, and a Bachelor's from Loyola Marymount University. I've been working in the field since 2009, gaining experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. As a Forensic Associate at the Institute on Violence, Abuse & Trauma, I worked within civil, family, and criminal courts and provided trauma-focused therapy. I have several publications and am currently a professor at Pepperdine University. My research and academic involvement allow me to stay current with best practices and approaches to treatment. **My approach** My research and involvement in academia keep me up to date with evidence-based psychotherapy techniques. I incorporate visuals and interventions designed to assist in changing aspects of brain function, such as increasing attention and focus or decreasing cortisol levels. I am a firm believer in safe, ethical practices and in applying what we know about the brain and how it is affected by various conditions. **My focus** My experience primarily involves working with depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, parenting practices, communication and interpersonal issues, and neurodivergent populations. **My communication style** When working together, you will notice I listen first. My communication style and pedagogy follow the three main tenets of Self-Determination Theory. I strive to ensure your experience maintains a sense of competence, autonomy, and relatedness. This approach fosters a safe, non-judgmental, motivating, and effective environment.
