Getting to know Dr. Ayn Vallis

Hi, I’m Dr. Vallis. I help high-functioning professionals, healthcare providers, and action-takers find relief, clarity, and confidence—without fluff. My style is both direct and holistic. I use trauma-informed therapy, mindfulness, somatic techniques, and evidence-based tools like CBT and ACT to help you move forward with intention. I began my career as a child psychologist, trained in yoga and meditation, and spent 15 years embedded with the Marine Corps and Army. I’ve taught mindfulness to Veterans at the VA, and since 2020, I’ve also provided psychedelic-assisted therapy and integration. I specialize in burnout, anxiety, trauma, anger, identity issues, and the invisible emotional weight carried by people who are always the “go-to” for others. If you’re exhausted from holding it all together—**for your partner, your team, your family—**therapy can be where you get to be held. You’ve carried so much. It doesn’t have to break you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You’ll receive warm, holistic, solution-focused therapy that meets you exactly where you are—without judgment or fluff. I specialize in CBT for anxiety, ACT for burnout, and somatic therapy for trauma and emotional overwhelm. We’ll also integrate mindfulness to help you stay grounded and connected in the present. Whether you’re struggling with stress, relationship strain, identity questions, or anger, my job is to help you get clear, heal deeply, and move forward. Your goals are our guidepost. Let’s set a course toward better mental health—starting today.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start by clearly defining the problem—together. I’ll ask focused questions to uncover the root issues, but don’t worry: you already hold the answers. I offer practical strategies based on what you’ve shared—whether it’s stress relief tools, cognitive reframes, boundary-setting, or mindfulness techniques. You choose what feels right. We tailor your sessions to your life. And most importantly, the real transformation happens between sessions. If you’re willing to do the inner work, the results will surprise and strengthen you.

Dr Vallis is absolutely the best, she truly cares about her patients and she is full of compassion!

I’ve worked with several therapists before, and none came close to the impact she had on me. Past experiences often felt surface-level—basic guidance, light homework, but nothing that truly challenged me or helped me grow. With her, it was different. She pushed me in the best way possible. I felt accountable, supported, and seen. Even in the hardest sessions, I always walked away feeling more grounded and more at peace with myself. She has a gift for offering tools and frameworks that have continued to shape how I process my experiences, even years later. She's incredible at balancing compassion with challenge. She didn’t let me stay comfortable in old patterns. Instead, she encouraged real growth—always with empathy, humor, and care. I genuinely miss our conversations, which says a lot about how meaningful they were to me. If you’re looking for a therapist who will not just listen but also guide, challenge, and equip you with tools for lasting change, I cannot recommend her enough.
Dr. Vallis is amazingly talented. She truly meets you where you are, working with you to grow and bloom into the best version of yourself through a personalized treatment plan. She does NOT provide the typical "and how does that make you feel" mundane therapy nor does she handle you with kid-gloves. Sessions were extremely productive as she applied cutting-edge knowledge and true therapeutic skill with a kind hearted tough-love that resonated with this seasoned Special Forces experienced Army Combat Engineer with over 10 combat deployments in a 28 year career.
I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Vallis! She has profoundly impacted my mental wellness journey for the better. From our very first session, her exceptional and empathetic approach made me feel heard and understood. She listens deeply, identifying underlying issues I never realized existed, and helps me see the bigger picture with clarity. What truly sets her apart is her ability to empower. While she validates my feelings, she also encourages me to recognize my strengths and take actionable steps toward improvement. She provides invaluable resources and tools to support my mental health journey between sessions, ensuring I stay focused and committed. Dr. Vallis is dedicated to her clients’ mental wellness and I have experienced significant growth under her guidance. Without any reservations, I highly recommend her to anyone seeking support in their mental health journey. She is truly a blessing, and I am thankful for her.
Dr. Vallis from the get go truly understood the behavioral health issues associated with combat veterans. I truly was amazed on how her treatment regiment helped me get to a better state. Her network of healthcare professionals reached out to me within 48hrs to get me the appointments I needed to recover. Our therapy sessions were real, she coached and guided me throughout the process and even checked up on me in between sessions using text messaging. What a true professional! I will be sharing my experiences with my fellow battle buddies and make sure they see Dr. Vallis for their behavioral health needs. She definitely has a gift, a true gift of healing! Thank you Doc for all you have done for me and my family! I am at a better place because of you ??????.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Vallis. She is down-to-earth, genuine, and a joy to talk with. From day one, she provided me with practical tools to help me process and understand my emotions and thoughts. She has a great sense of humor, which made our sessions feel comfortable and approachable. It's clear that she genuinely cares about her clients and is committed to supporting them. I truly appreciated her approach and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking compassionate and effective therapy.

I can’t speak highly enough of my experience with Dr. Vallis . She consistently leaves me feeling confident and reassured after every appointment. Her advice is thoughtful, practical, and always in my best interest. One of the things I value most is how strongly she advocates for her patients—she genuinely cares. As someone in the LGBTQ+ community, finding a provider who creates a safe, affirming space can be difficult, but she has always made me feel seen, respected, and supported. I’ve never once felt judged, and that level of comfort has made it so much easier for me to open up and make real progress. She’s truly exceptional.
Dr. Vallis was amazing. She’s still amazing! Working with anyone in behavioral health and being in the military can be tricky. There’s a lot of being vulnerable, a lot of having to trust, a lot of being honest, a lot of being comfortable enough with your provider, etc. From the beginning of time the level of comfort I felt and the professionalism displayed was solid. Dealing with Dr. Vallis, a female, woman of color, it was great to have her not only HEAR ME but understand me. She communicated her concerns (if there were any) and communicated any and all suggested routes to get me together. She ensured my privacy was respected and protected at all times. If I could clone her I would. Talking to her was always a breath of fresh air and I always knew I had a safe place to articulate my feelings, emotions, and thoughts! Dr. Vallis has helped me rebrand myself and provided me tools to re-ignite the spark that had been lost. Thank you a million times! I’m still on my journey …
Dr. Vallis didn’t just meet me where I was—she honored the whole of me. In every session, she helped me name my emotions, trace the roots of my behaviors, and take brave, aligned steps toward reclaiming my peace. Her care was the catalyst for one of the hardest and most liberating decisions of my life. If you are a Black woman—queer, straight, soft, tired, overachieving, or just breathing—and you’re wondering if therapy is worth it, let this be your confirmation. Dr. Vallis is gifted, grounded, and culturally attuned. She sees us, affirms us, challenges us, and gently walks with us back to ourselves.
Dr. Vallis didn’t just meet me where I was she honored the whole of me. In every session, she helped me name my emotions, trace the roots of my behaviors, and take brave, aligned steps toward reclaiming my peace. I knew walking in what the problem was I just didn’t know what to do about it. Little did I know I wasn’t seeing the full picture. Her care was the catalyst for one of the hardest and most liberating decisions of my life. If you are a Black woman/man, queer, straight, tired, overachieving, or just breathing and want intelligent common sense perspectives and you’re wondering if therapy is worth it, let this be your confirmation. We don’t have to keep surviving in silence. We are allowed to heal out loud. Dr. Vallis is gifted, grounded, and culturally attuned. She sees us, affirms us, challenges us, and gently walks with us back to ourselves.
Dr Vallis is a God Send to those who are truly in need. She has a unique ability to help her clients quickly identify the root of their issues and become a part of the solution. Her transparency and relatability make it easy for men (and women alike) to let down their guard, lean into the process and really seek the assistance many are so in need of! There is such a stigma attached to behavioral health treatment and diagnoses in the black community. Dr. Vallis has a very natural gift that somehow “makes it ok” to be seen. She is kind and authentic and raw and vulnerable - all of which allow her to be absolutely potent in her job. 10 out of 10. 5 Stars.
Dr. Vallis has been truly instrumental in my recovery. Her approach is not only professional but deeply human — she listens with compassion, engages with authenticity, and tailors her care to what each patient genuinely needs. She provided thoughtful exercises and practical assignments that helped me make real progress, and introduced powerful therapeutic alternatives I hadn’t encountered before. What stands out most is that she always places her patients’ well-being first. You can feel that she genuinely wants her patients to succeed, and she has a way of connecting that makes you feel seen and supported. I’m incredibly grateful to have worked with her
Willingness to listen and provide real meaningful feedback. Working with active duty veterans Doc Vallis truly understands what our active duty soldiers have been through and continue to go through on a daily basis. She does not take a one approach fits all and tailors her care after the patients needs! A true blessing and professional, the behavior health community and those Doc Vallis takes care of are lucky to have her.
Her expertise in providing psychotherapy for myself and my colleagues is impeccable. She invokes hope, self-awareness, and self-appreciation. Despite the complexities of her responsibilities, her teaching methodology and therapeutic process remain a symbol of a positive transformational change in my life.
Dr. Vallis is amazing. It is really hard to find a provider that I feel really listens without doing a mental checklist. She was able to adjust the conversation in a direction that felt natural without interrupting. It really helped me view things differently than I have before and I felt like she made good observations and recommendations. I keep some of her recommendations in my notebook I use for work every day.
She was very professional, attentive and supportive. She also provided positive solutions to help me through my daily challenges. I would definitely recommend Dr. Vallis to anyone looking for therapist. She cares about the needs of her patients.
I have have been to several psychologists and Dr. Vallis is the only one that has ever truly seen me. She was able to break down walls and in turn trust her with my darkest thoughts. She has literally changes the course of my life and helped me to reflect on what my needs are in orer to move forward and be successful. She is hands down, the best psychologist you will find.
Professional, trusting, caring, compassionate, and devoted to her patients! In 28 years of active-duty service, she was the only doctor that could get me to open up and the only one I trusted. She didn't mince words, cared about what I had to say and very thorough in her explanations. My last appointment with her was ~3-4 months ago yet she still stays in touch and still stays engaged! Bottom Line: I trust her with my life! If given the chance to select her as your provider take it and don't look back!
Dr. Vallis is hands down one of the most empathetic and humble doctors I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. From the moment I walked in, she made me feel heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. She takes the time to listen without rushing, explains things in a clear and reassuring way, and makes you feel like more than just a number. Her calm demeanor and professionalism are matched only by her compassion and attentiveness. You can tell she truly cares about her patients' well-being. I left feeling confident in my care and very grateful to have found her. Highly recommend!
I’m so grateful I found Dr. Vallis. From our very first session, I felt truly listened to. They have a warm and grounding presence and have been essential in helping me see myself in a new light and navigate difficult transitions with more clarity and compassion. Dr. Vallis is insightful, and genuinely cares about their clients. Working with her, I have learned so much about myself and have taken meaningful steps to build healthier patterns. I highly recommend working with Dr. Vallis.
I was thoroughly impressed. She is likely the most supportive and engaging psychologist I have met with. She simplified psychology terms and the benefits of various treatment options. She has been very proactive in helping me with my behavioral health. I consider myself quite fortunate to have met her.
Attending Dr. Vallis’ military-focused stress reduction class was one of the most impactful experiences I’ve had since joining active duty. She truly understands the unique pressures of military life and approaches each session with respect, cultural competence, and genuine care. The class was structured in a way that balanced practical tools—like breathing techniques, mindfulness strategies, and cognitive reframing—with open, honest discussion. Dr. Vallis created a space where everyone felt heard, supported, and never judged. Her clinical insight and understanding of human complexity helped me recognize patterns and build better coping skills. Each session left me more empowered and hopeful. If you're looking for a compassionate, skilled, and truly dedicated psychologist, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Vallis. It’s been a transformative experience, and I’m grateful to have taken this step into my next transformation journey with her.
    Exceptional!
Dr Vallis was very patient, compassionate, and considerate of my needs as a first-time patient. I have never done therapy before and she graciously and gently guided me through the process, and has helped me to have introspection and see situations from another vantage point. Dr Vallis is tough when needed, but also, I appreciate her thoughtfulness and insight, and unique perspective as a woman of color in helping me navigate my issues to improve my situation and my interpersonal relationships moving forward.
Dr. Vallis is a strong therapist. She is both inspirational and tough. She will help guide you through difficult times through mindfulness practice and self care coaching She is highly intuitive and effective in her role as listener and counselor. If you are struggling or even just need some direction, Dr. Vallis can help.
Dr. Vallis is keenly insighful. She listened but also asked subtle and probing questions to go beyond surface issues to deeper root cause. She is very observant and picks up on queues. Her mentorship skills are great. She will tells it like it is and acts as a strong accountability partner.
Dr Vallis listened to me. Other doc are checking a box and racing to finish the session. She heard what I was saying and I felt better when I left. I have told friends about her, and said they should make an appt with her…which I think says it all.
Doc Vallis is the best! Straight forward, direct, no BS. She’s going to tell you like it is. She saved my life and that is not an exaggeration!
I only have good things to say about Dr. Vallis. She was my last ditch effort. I had seen so many shrinks before her, couples counseling, individual, group- you name it. I didn't think I was going to get anything out of it... but I went anyway. She blew all those other therapists out of the water. First off she explains everything and speaks in very plain language - Second she is a real human being, not a robot with a clipboard judging you- Third she gives you ideas that you can actually use today. Fourth she helps me remember that I am competent, that I can o hard things. She says I am wonderful and worthy. I always leave with a smile on my face.
Dr. Vallis started hitting the nail on the head immediately. She listened to what I was saying and would ask me those hard questions that made me face my relationship choices. She would ask how I wanted my life to be different and what changes I was willing to make to get it. She says, "if you want a new life, the price for it is your old life" and that stays with me. She does ask the hard questions but I get amazing results. I leave the office feeling so much better than when I went in. If you want your life to be better and you want to be healthier then, don't wait. Call her now.
Dr. Vallis is an amazing psychologist. She’s patient and meets you where you are. She taught me tools I need for sustained health. Highly recommend!
