Dr. Bryan Balvaneda, PhD, LCP

Psychologist
CA
Hi there, I'm Dr. Bryan Balvaneda, PhD, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in San Diego, California. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts. I consider myself a guide-I help you move toward your goals in a healthy and meaningful way, whether those goals involve relieving stress, addressing mental health concerns, or pursuing personal growth. My approach can be broadly summarized as changing the way we relate to our experiences and identifying pathways for engaging in meaningful actions that promote healing and progress. I draw primarily from Cognitive-Behavioral, Mindfulness-based, and Feminist-Multicultural therapies. Through these approaches, I aim to help you understand your experiences, how and why they arise within the context of your personal history, culture, and identity, and find ways to work through them. I enjoy working with adults across the lifespan, with particular experience supporting university students navigating high-stress environments. I address a variety of concerns, including depression, stress, substance use, identity development, and cultural and social issues, with a specialty in anxiety. My communication style centers on helping clients feel understood and cared for through reflections on the importance of what they share, offering compassion, and recognizing how their experiences make sense. I strive to create space for clients to use therapy in ways that work best for them by collaboratively setting agendas and checking in about how I can be most helpful. My journey to therapy began with a desire to help others heal and overcome life's challenges. Over time, I have come to deeply admire how people navigate difficult situations, experience meaningful growth, and how our diverse ways of thinking and living enrich the world.
