James Hamill, LCP

Psychologist
CA
I aim to build trust with each patient to explore meaning in their existing lives and strike a balance in our emotions between family, society, coworkers, strangers, and ourselves. I work with patients with mood disorders like depression and anxiety, addiction, and psychotic disorders. My approach I use an existential approach focused on developing trust and helping patients better understand their emotions through a safe space to express themselves, process, and explore their emotional depth. This vulnerable communication is key for gaining insight and self-esteem. My focus I work with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, loss, family trauma, psychosis, and intense stress. My communication style My communication style shifts as each person needs a different approach to better manage their lives. I believe each person has the capacity to direct their own life in a positive way with guidance, realistic challenges, and validation for achievements. My journey to mental healthcare I have had a passion for all things psychological since adolescence. I find the inner workings of the human mind and the conscious experience to be fascinating and demanding of my lifelong examination. As a therapist, I have found that the most powerful tool in helping people is building a trustful connection through empathic understanding. My goals for you Each patient comes into therapy with a different reason and a unique idea of what success would look and feel like. For patients struggling with maintaining motivation, establishing weekly, realistic, and achievable goals can help them focus on incrementally improving aspects of their mental health. My first session with you My initial session involves a brief overview of confidentiality, and I answer any questions you may have. The majority of the session is spent getting to know each other and learning why you are starting therapy. I try to learn as much as I can about you that may be relevant.
