Dr. Judith Lobel, PhD

Psychologist
230 W 13th St, 3K, New York, NY
I'm a psychologist and psychoanalyst with many years in private practice working with children (ages 8 and up only), adolescents, and adults to address challenges like anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, social isolation, and navigating friendships and relationships. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from CUNY, The City University of New York. I have a particular focus on working with preteens and teen girls who feel overlooked or misunderstood and may cope by forming judgments of others as a way to protect themselves from negative feelings. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where they can build confidence, improve relationships, and explore healthier ways to express their emotions. I also work frequently with children on the autism spectrum. I do sessions both in person at my office and online. While I only accept Aetna Commercial PPO insurance and Medicare in-network, I'm happy to help those who have out-of-network benefits.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been in practice for many years and believe that therapy can help people feel more confident about their place in the world. I feel respect and gratitude towards my patients; their readiness to explore their areas of vulnerability has helped me to understand similar vulnerabilities within myself. My PhD in Clinical Psychology is from CUNY; I trained at NYU's Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. I have learned from many sources; in this sense my approach is eclectic. It is important to tailor frequency and duration of treatment for each patient.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use Play Therapy to help children express their emotions in a safe, natural way and provide guidance for parents to support their child’s growth. For individuals and small groups, we speak about the issues at hand. My hope is to create a collaborative space to explore challenges and foster growth. My sessions last 50 minutes to an hour and are tailored to each client’s needs.

I had to contact the doctor who told me she was unaware of my confirmed appointment, did not accept my insurance and told Zocdoc to stop booking appointments. Then hung up.
