Getting to know Dr. Julie Kolzet

Dr. Julie Kolzet is a licensed psychologist specializing in sleep, anxiety, and behavioral medicine. She provides evidence-based therapy to help adults improve sleep, reduce stress, and manage anxiety so they can feel more rested, focused, and emotionally steady. Her approach is practical, collaborative, and designed to create meaningful improvements in both nighttime sleep and daytime functioning. Dr. Kolzet treats a wide range of concerns, including insomnia, difficulty falling or staying asleep, racing thoughts at night, middle-of-the-night awakenings, chronic worry, stress, and performance anxiety. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and behavioral health strategies tailored to each patient’s lifestyle, routines, and goals. She completed advanced fellowship training in Behavioral Sleep Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania—one of the nation’s leading programs for CBT-I—and has extensive experience in health psychology and mind–body approaches. Her work integrates the connection between sleep, stress, and emotional health to help patients achieve lasting change. Dr. Kolzet is committed to therapy that is effective, efficient, and deeply validating. Many patients begin noticing improvements in sleep and anxiety within a few weeks.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Our work together begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand your unique concerns, history, and goals. From there, I create a personalized treatment plan that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches, while staying flexible and responsive to what feels most helpful for you. Some patients appreciate a structured, goal-oriented plan, while others prefer a more collaborative, conversational process—and we can adjust to meet your needs. My aim is always to help you manage stress, improve sleep, reduce anxiety, and build resilience, while creating space for deeper insight and lasting change. For those seeking an in-network option, my doctoral trainee Sophia, under my direct supervision, offers virtual therapy sessions that follow the same thoughtful and client-centered approach. Please note: I do not provide treatment for individuals experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts, psychosis, violent behavior, legal issues, or conditions requiring hospitalization. My practice is best suited for individuals ready to engage in evidence-based therapy to enhance their quality of life. If you’re ready to take the next step, I welcome you to schedule a brief consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you’d like to change or improve. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to understand your history and goals, and together we’ll outline a personalized plan that feels right for you. If sleep is a focus, we may start with a sleep assessment—sometimes using a sleep diary—to identify patterns and build strategies for better rest. In ongoing sessions, we’ll explore thought patterns, behaviors, and stress triggers that may be affecting your mood, sleep, or relationships. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches, I’ll help you learn practical strategies to manage stress, reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and build resilience. Sessions often include clear, actionable steps—like adjusting daily routines, practicing relaxation techniques, or setting healthy boundaries—so you can start seeing progress between visits. Therapy isn’t just about addressing challenges; it’s about building confidence, finding clarity, and creating a more balanced and fulfilling life. Over time, we’ll track your progress, refine strategies, and ensure you have the tools to maintain growth long after therapy ends. For those seeking a more accessible option, my doctoral trainee Sophia offers virtual therapy under my supervision, bringing the same thoughtful, client-centered approach for individuals navigating life transitions or seeking support with stress and adjustment. My approach is warm, practical, and flexible—ideal for busy professionals, executives, and anyone looking for goal-oriented, evidence-based support delivered with compassion. If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to schedule a brief consultation.

Dr. Kolzet has helped me reach my goal of living a healthier lifestyle. Thank you, Dr. Kolzet
Dr. Kolzet went over and beyond her duties as a therapist, was an active listener, planner and extremely kind and compassionate. Her sessions aren't just about empathy as she tries to come up with a plan, strategy and game plan to help enhance her patient's life. I can not recommend Dr. Kolzet enough!
I was having a lot of trouble with sleep because of my anxiety for months, and Dr. Kolzet really helped me discover ways to cope with anxiety and stress. My anxiety has been much better the past few weeks and I am learning new ways to decrease my levels of anxiety. I have also been sleeping better and forming new habits to help with my insomnia.
Dr. Julie is thorough with how she listen and gives advice. I would recommend her to any of my closest friends. She seemed to genuinely care and I appreciate the time she spent with me. I look forward to seeing her again.
She is compassionate, a great listener, and very insightful. I enjoyed my time with Dr. Kolzet and would highly recommend her.
I have been working with Dr. Kolzet for about 5 months now, about once a week — and she's awesome. I've made a lot of life changing habits since we've met and I feel like I've been able to achieve a lot of the goals I was seeking when looking for a therapist to help me. (I was looking for someone to help me doubt myself less, lower my anxieties, and start accomplishing my dreams with real self confidence.) Her ideas challenge my comfort zone, and I really lean on them to help me make better life, business and romantic decisions. And after 5 months, my life feels much more like my own now. I'll be happy to continue to work with her in the future.
She seemed nice on the phone but being in the office with her was bizarre. She has strange mannerisms and seems to have trouble maintaining eye contact. I told her about an illness I've been struggling with, diagnosed by several doctors, and she said that she had never heard of it and that it seemed like a FAKE diagnosis. I mean, WHAT? I wasn't asking for her opinion on my diagnosis, I was there for her to help me deal with the stress of the illness. And right off the bat, not only had she never heard of it but she called it fake? Extremely bizarre and rude. If she didn't know about it, she should;ve said "I don't know much about that but I'll make sure to read up so I'm prepared next time you come in." I found her to be unprofessional, strange, and uncomfortable. Only good thing about the appointment was her office. She also does not let you make weekly appointments at a set time. Unbelievable.
I participated in group therapy with Dr. Kolzet, primarily to help with my social anxiety, and was very pleased with my experience. Group was a safe environment to discuss my anxiety/problems and receive honest, thoughtful feedback from the other members. In addition, it was helpful to listen to the other group members and learn from their experiences as well as contribute my own thoughts a on their situations. Dr. Kolzet and the other group facilitator both asked thoughtful questions to prompt further analysis of situations/problems and provided helpful advice. Overall, I feel that group therapy was very helpful to my condition and would recommend it to anyone who is interested.
I visited twice and believed that I was starting to actually get help for my anxiety. That is, until the day I accidentally misread my appointment card, thinking it was at another time for the same day. My mistake, completely. But word to the wise, she has a strict cancellation policy and you will owe big if you make that mistake. To be fair, this is in her contract agreement. However, there are NO REMINDERS AVAILABLE about your appointments with her. You forgot? You messed up? "Sucks to be you" is the reply you'll get. Now instead of getting help, I'm back to where I started with even more anxiety because I'm being hounded every day over money. I'm truly disappointed with this entire experience and saddened by what I'm still having to go through. Lesson learned I guess.
Group therapy with Dr. Kolzet and Chelsea has been very helpful in identifying behaviors, evaluating the thoughts behind the feelings/behaviors and encouraging effective behavioral changes. I enjoy the group session format because I can participate in active discussions with group members, gain insight into my own behaviors by receiving feedback and different perspectives from group members and help group members by providing my unique perspective.
Dr. Kolzet has been immensely helpful in teaching me how to identify and change unhealthy behaviors and thought patterns. She uses a mix of discussions, "homework," goal setting, reading and instruction. Not only has she helped to find, analyze, and address specific issues, but she has given me simple, useful, repeatable tools for thinking about things in constructive new ways. I highly recommend her!
I've been seeing Dr. Kolzet for over a year now. With her expertise, I have learned to manage my depression, anxiety, and relationship issues in a positive and productive way. She has provided me with many exercises and tools to actively practice different/better behavior. She is absolutely as professional as could be. It's delightful to see her each week. Her schedule is really flexible, which is great for me and my varying work schedule.

She is the best in her profession and has helped me overcome so much! I can't begin to extend my appreciation! I would recommend her for anyone in need of a therapist.
Dr. Kolvet is a cognitive behavioral therapist who helps her patients manage their emotions by controlling their actions. She's helped me a lot with time-management and accountability. Part of this type of therapy requires some outside work, I fill out activity sheets and I find it immensely helpful. I am already seeing some results and would recommend this type of therapy for people that have tried other types in the past.
I see her every so often, she is easy to talk to. Always supportive, thoughtful, authentic, and helpful in terms of problem solving. I would recommend her.

It was incredibly beneficial and thereputic in helping improve many life skills. I am very pleased with my visits and progress.
Dr. Kolzet helped me through a difficult period in my life. She is flexible with scheduling sessions and was able to accommodate my busy schedule. There is homework between sessions, and that's an important part of cognitive behavioral therapy.
I feel much better. Period.
