“Karen, my OT, who is a certified hand specialist, is amazing! She is so competent, caring, and kind. Karen goes the extra mile to find strategies to help me use my hands more effectively. She has created splints for each hand, because my thumbs and fingers are so painful. She tweaked them to make them work even better. Karen has patience, and it is easy to talk with her. And, I need quite a bit of instruction. She never makes me feel like it is too much for her. She finds videos to help me with at home exercises, and frequently goes over the instructions with me. She also provided me with a print out of exercises. I have worked with other therapists; however, Karen is one of a kind. I highly recommend Karen because of her expertise, experience, and dedication to the field of hand therapy. Karen continues to research and find ways to help her patients!”

“Karen is beyond knowledgeable and so very easy to work with. She took me from having no use of my hand to complete mobility and use for every day needs. I would come back to her 100% for the same surgery needed for my other hand.”

About Karen Bartlett

After working in the music industry and radio for ten years, I decided to switch careers to a field focused on helping others. I graduated cum laude from the State University of New York, earning both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Occupational Therapy at the Stony Brook campus in 2013. I also hold an Associate’s degree from the Suffolk campus. From my first year at Stony Brook, I knew I wanted to specialize in hand therapy. I began my career in skilled nursing, and a year later, I gladly accepted an opportunity to work specifically in hand therapy. I have continued to work per diem in skilled nursing for the past eight years. As a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), I am often consulted to assist the geriatric population with various hand diagnoses and am frequently asked to fabricate custom splints. For the past six years, I have worked at the Southampton location, where I have developed strong relationships with local doctors and community members. I love working in a tight-knit community that has been so welcoming. After joining Professional, I was asked to help start other hand clinic locations, including Sayville and Copiague. I am a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). Currently, I reside in Sayville, where I enjoy kayaking, biking, and spending time outdoors. Travel is my passion, and I look forward to combining my love of travel and hand therapy by volunteering with organizations such as the Touching Hands Project.
