Getting to know Dr. Karyne Messina
Whether it be through counseling, psychotherapy, and/or psychoanalysis, Dr. Messina believes in collaborating with patients to help them learn about themselves and work toward resolving conflicts and other life issues that hold them back from optimal living.
When Dr. Messina sees a new patient for a consultation, she assesses what they want from life and what they are struggling with. She does this in collaboration with each individual so together they can discuss and recommend what is best for the person or their child or adolescent at that time. Sometimes people want to work on one problem and later develop a desire to explore other aspects of themselves. In those situations, she often works more intensely and frequently to uncover what has meaning to them and how best to navigate the world with choice rather than feeling compelled to comply with others’ wishes.
Patients are urged to make appointments for themselves. If that is not possible, please call the office. Copays and deductibles can be paid using Venmo, PayPal, credit cards, or personal checks.
Please be certain to complete all sections of the registration form on the Zocdoc website at least one business day prior to your appointment. Your initial visit may be delayed if your form is not received within this timeframe. Patients are responsible for missed sessions and sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice.
Dr. Messina is a CareFirst participating provider and is also in the CIGNA network. Co-pay information for your insurance plan can be obtained by calling the number on the back of your insurance card.
Dr. Messina holds a Doctorate in Human Development and a Master’s degree from George Washington University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University. She looks forward to meeting you to determine what type of therapy is most optimal for you.

It was such a relief to find someone like her. She makes me feel very comfortable and I was able to open up a lot of deeper issues. I will be going weekly from now! It's really hard to find a psychologist one feels comfortable sharing with. She's also understanding when it comes to payments and offers different forms of payments.

I've been seeing her for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. I've seen other shrinks before but never clicked with them like I do with her. I wouldn't see anyone else if you paid me.

We went to doctor Messina for couples therapy. Our marriage was going through a very difficult time. After 4 visits we were 'Talking' to each other. Now, after 3 months, we feel like our marriage is on track and our relationship is better than ever.

She's super cool. I was surprised how well she could relate to me and my life b/c I think she's my mom's age. But she seems to really understand me & she's totally non-judgmental which was really important to me.

My wife asked my to get therapy. I thought it would be too much psychobabble for me. Turns out I kinda like it. Its a relief to finally tell someone how I really feel. My wife heard about the doc from her therapist; it was the best suggestion for me. I think my wife is happier with me now too.
