More about Kayla Nelson, LPC
People can not only heal from trauma and mental health challenges, but they can grow from them too. I believe that healing and growth most often happen in relationship. My approach to therapy is collaborative and strength-based. You are the expert on you, and you have the innate tools and inner resilience required to overcome any life stressors, traumas, and mental health challenges that come your way. As a therapist, I am here to guide, support, and empower you to overcome challenges and grow. One of the types of therapy I use is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help people process and resolve trauma. I also integrate cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, self-compassion, and mindfulness.
I earned my Master’s in Community Counseling from Adams State University. I have worked in an outpatient clinic with a variety of people, with adolescents and families in crisis, and with youth experiencing homelessness. These experiences have shaped me to be aware of how systems and factors beyond therapy affect people’s mental health. This background has also made me passionate about working with young adults and LGBTQ people.
