Jean Becker, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
I use a cognitive approach to therapy, exploring different ways of thinking through problems (reframing). My specialties include anxiety (social anxiety) and panic, depression, alcohol use, and career-related issues. Career problems often involve stress and compassion fatigue, especially among first responders, police, military personnel, veterinarians, attorneys, and others. I help you identify troubling thoughts, explore your beliefs, and understand how they developed. Together, we reframe these thoughts and beliefs to make more sense. Many find it empowering to reframe thoughts rather than feel helpless. I work primarily with adults adjusting to life changes such as occupational shifts (layoffs or promotions), couple situations (infidelity, marriage, divorce), life transitions (new baby, empty nest, menopause, illness), and longer-term mental health challenges (bipolar disorder, addiction, ADHD). My communication style is caring and hospitable, and my office is cozy and welcoming. I use a structured approach so you will likely know what to expect. I aim to help clients become motivated to help themselves rather than simply giving directions. I became a therapist later in life, at age 50, driven by a passion for helping people overcome struggles. I have worked extensively with victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and those facing long-term challenges, especially anxiety. My personal life experiences fuel the energy I bring to my work. I hold a Master's degree in Applied Psychology and Counselor Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Together, we set goals early in therapy. During each session, I ask clients what steps they have taken based on previous sessions to move toward their goals. I also encourage clients to set the direction of each session, ensuring the work focuses on what matters most to them.
