“Tara is amazing. She made me feel so at ease, and was open and adaptive. It’s so important to find a therapist who can pivot when they see that you need things to be said in a different way, and Tara is great at that. I’m so grateful for my time with her. ”

Getting to know Tara Barrett

Are you your own worst critic? Are you the first to point out your faults, with a part of you always feeling like you're not doing enough? After leaving an event, do you find yourself replaying every interaction in your head on the drive home? Do you put the needs of others before your own, feeling that sick-to-your-stomach guilt when saying ?no?? Do you escape into work, hobbies, relationships-even chores-to avoid sitting with your thoughts and feelings? If these experiences feel familiar, I am with you, and I would love to be a support for you. Let's quiet that inner critic that can be so very loud (yes, it's possible!) and make space for a voice with a bit more kindness. Let's write a new story for you-one where you can feel your feelings without being overwhelmed by them. One where you learn to trust your own judgments and instincts without second-guessing yourself or constantly consulting others. One where your needs and feelings are just as important as those around you. Together, we'll discover the unique parts of you that make you, YOU, and practice appreciating and celebrating them. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and I bring that training and compassion to every step of our work together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a very relational approach to therapy. I want our time to feel like an exhale - a space where you can show up as you are, share openly, and feel heard and understood. Clients who work with me share that I am warm, thoughtful and compassionate, while also creating a space for growth. Clients also find that I’m open and adaptive - meeting them where they are, creating a space for feedback, and pivoting as needed Because our relationship is so important to me, I’m not a believer of the “blank canvas” robotic therapist - rather, I enjoy bringing my personality into the space and connecting with you with curiosity, humor, and shared interests. As a recovering perfectionist and people-pleaser, I can relate to those journeying to be kind to themselves, discover their voice, and effectively communicate their needs to others. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated, insightful, and eager to create healthy and meaningful changes for their future. When I’m not wearing my therapist hat, you can often find me outside hiking/running/camping or at a local coffee shop testing my limits with caffeine. I’m an Enneagram 2, and an old soul who enjoys reading, game nights and rewatching The Office and/or Parks & Rec.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I love to support and empower clients around themes of anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues and childhood trauma. Together, we will take a thoughtful look at your past to better understand how your experiences have influenced your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. In our time together, we will practice self-compassion, develop effective coping strategies, and strengthen your relationship with yourself and others.

Tara creates space for feedback and evaluation in her sessions that I haven’t experienced with most therapists. I feel comfortable saying what’s working and what’s not working for me. That’s a huge feat for a people pleaser! Tara is great at meeting folks where they’re at in accommodating ways while still challenging folks and creating a space for growth.
I would recommended Tara in a heartbeat! I have seen nearly half a dozen therapists in the past decade and Tara is by far the most compassionate, well-spoken, and thoughtful of them all. I feel her care and support both in and out of sessions. Her ability to listen and respond to intense trauma is truly a gift. I would highly recommend booking a consult and/or session with Tara.
Tara has been a compassionate and emotionally intelligent therapist for me. We have focused on cognitive behavioral therapy to work through my struggles with anxiety and depression. She has also led me in short mindfulness activities. Tara is kind and thoughtful in her approach. I highly recommend her!
