Dr. Luis Sanchez, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist, former professional Irish dancer, and current dance teacher who brings rare, firsthand insight to dance medicine and sports rehab. He performed professionally in Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance and holds a B.A. and Master of Arts in Irish Dance Performance from the University of Limerick, Ireland, along with his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Universidad Del Valle de México. Luis treats dancers of every style, including ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, Irish, and musical theater, from young students to professionals and adult recreational dancers. He understands turnout, pointe readiness, extension, jumping and landing, partnering, and heavy rehearsal schedules, and how they lead to injuries like hip and ankle impingement, stress reactions, and tendinopathies. Rather than telling dancers to stop, he modifies training and rebuilds strength and control so they return to class and the stage with confidence. Beyond dance, Luis has worked with athletes at every level, from recreational runners and weekend warriors to high school and collegiate competitors, as well as professional soccer players and boxers. He has a particular passion for knee, shoulder, ankle, and hip injuries, including ACL reconstruction and nonsurgical ACL rehab, rotator cuff and labral injuries, shoulder instability, ankle sprains, Achilles tendinopathy, and hip impingement. His approach combines hands on manual therapy and progressive strengthening with dry needling and blood flow restriction (BFR) training, which builds strength with lighter loads when a joint can’t yet tolerate heavy weight. He uses objective return to sport testing of strength, hop performance, and movement quality so the decision to return to the field, court, ring, or stage is based on data. Luis treats patients in both English and Spanish.
