About Dr. Maria Pontoriero

Maria’s passion for physical therapy began when she was a summer intern at an inpatient rehabilitation center during her time at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. She was immersed in the rehabilitative world observing patients following strokes, amputations, fractures, and joint replacements make progress on a daily basis. Maria was inspired and became determined that physical therapy was the career path for her in order to help people return to function and regain independence. In 2012, Maria started working as a physical therapy aide at Excel in Waldwick where her love for outpatient therapy began. She graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2018 from Chapman University in Orange County, California. Born and raised a North Jersey girl, she moved back to NJ where she started her career in outpatient orthopedics treating a wide variety of patient populations. Maria has a passion for treating pre/post operative cases, falls, sports injuries, repetitive use injuries, and chronic pain for different orthopedic diagnoses and conditions. She also has experience treating patients with TMJ dysfunction. She takes her time to get to know her patients and focuses her evaluations and treatments on the individual goals for each patient. She treats with an emphasis on manual therapy and functional exercises. Maria believes that no two patients are alike, therefore individualized treatment plans are her standard of care. Maria describes herself as a life-long learner who enjoys reading, trivia, and Jeopardy, with a bucket-list item to be a contestant one day! She stays active by running and doing yoga. She enjoys traveling and sightseeing but also appreciates a night-in spending quality time with family and friends.
