About Marivi Lao

Marivi earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where she had the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations across acute, sub-acute, home health, and outpatient settings. Prior to that, Marivi graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kean University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a minor in Health Education. Throughout her clinical experiences, Marivi has worked with patients of all ages presenting various orthopedic, cardiac, and neurologic conditions. Her clinical interests include orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, and injury prevention. Marivi's passion for physical therapy stems from her background in dance. Her experience performing, competing, and teaching has taught her the importance of optimizing movement to maximize patient performance. She is dedicated to helping her patients reach their full potential and promoting total mind and body wellness. Marivi continues to seek educational opportunities to enhance her skills in manual techniques and functional training to provide her patients with the best care possible. Born and raised in New Jersey, Marivi has always enjoyed being immersed in city life. In her spare time, she stays active by taking dance classes, practicing yoga, hiking, and traveling.

I've been with Marivi to rehab my knees after a running-related injury for about 4 months and I can't recommend her highly enough. From the beginning and throughout the entire process, she has listened to me intently and carefully about how my knees are feeling from week to week and adapts certain exercises or adds new ones that will help me with my specific weakness. She always know's when I'm ready to progress and can push myself (sometimes before I even realize it myself) and when I should hold back. Not only have my knee issues nearly disappeared, but I also feel that I have a greater understanding of how to prevent the same problem and other injuries in general from occuring in the future due to her clear explanations of why I should do specific exercises and her willingness to answer whatever questions, big or small, that I might have. Marivi's ability to do all of this in an engaging, fun, knowledgeable, and completely non-judgemental way kept me hopeful that with her guidance, my knees would be back to normal again and stronger than before, a hope that, with patience, has become a reality thanks to her.

Marivi is great to work with - she is patient and explains things very well, and always keeps an eye on you even when she seems to be busy with someone else! She really pays attention to each patients individual circumstances and works with the person to maximize their benefit.
Marivi is the best! I've seen several PT's over the years but Marivi goes above and beyond. She's encouraging and patient; she makes time to answer questions and explain new exercises. She adds new exercises regularly to keep things interesting.
I am very much satisfied with the therapy services I received. Marivi is very thorough and methodical with the care and exercises. She puts in maximum effort to help me get back on my feet and physical 100 % with good mix of care & exercises.
Excellent! Marivi really listened to all my concerns and tailored everything to work well with my pregnancy. It was nice to feel like I was working and getting better , without feeling like my pregnant belly was holding me back.
My last visit was fantastic. Marivi has met with me weekly since the pandemic started out and I've been out of NYC, and she's been the key to my continued progress in recovering from TKR surgery. She's helped me overcome hurdles and during my last visit, I was able to start box jumps only 7 months post surgery.
All my sessions with Marivi are excellent. She understands my issues and therapy goals, and is always prompt and prepared for our sessions. Marivi consistently and clearly communicates all pertinent information, has terrific positive attitude and demonstrates and explains the purposes of all the exercises we do in therapy. She adds new exercises all the time, keeping the sessions interesting and I have been extremely pleased with my progress while working with her.
Marivi is fantastic. Highly professional, competent, and very easy to work with. Appointment also always run on time. I would highly recommend to all.
Everything was great. Staff was extremely friendly, and my therapist was able to educate me on reasons why I had the shoulder and back pain. My PT provided me with exercises to do in the clinic and at home. I started to feel relief the same day I had the appointment.
