About Maya Shimamura

Maya moved to San Diego in 2014 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. Her love for working with the pediatric population developed while she was a recreational gymnastics coach and summer camp counselor. Maya graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine, San Marcos campus in 2022. Her previous experience includes providing services to students in Oceanside Unified School District, as well as providing in-home services through early intervention. Maya enjoys collaborating with a client’s family and other service providers to help support and develop a client’s gross motor skills. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants, watching sports (Go Dodgers!), and watching television with her fiancé and cat.
