Getting to know Rebeca Brau Martinez

Are you feeling stuck or overwhelmed by anxiety, relationship stress, or transitions? I work from a commitment to understanding your experience in context, not simply managing symptoms. As a licensed marriage and family therapist in New York, I support individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, trauma, relational challenges, and life transitions, particularly when long-standing coping strategies no longer feel sustainable. My approach to therapy for individuals, couples, and families is integrative and systemic. Together, we look beyond symptoms to explore the relationships, cultural contexts, and social pressures shaping your inner world. We gently unpack patterns, externalize problems, and reconnect you with your own wisdom and sense of agency, so change feels grounded rather than forced. Our work is collaborative and paced with care for your nervous system and lived experience. Rather than asking you to perform, overfunction, or “fix” yourself, therapy centers on curiosity, honesty, and relational attunement. Clients often describe the space as warm, thoughtful, and human—with room for humor alongside depth—because meaningful change does not have to feel unbearably heavy to be real.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect to feel heard and understood from day one. I help clients build clarity, connection, and steadier emotional ground—both within themselves and in their relationships. Therapy with me is a safe, supportive space to explore concerns related to anxiety, relational challenges, and emotional healing, with your experience always at the center of the work. My approach is warm, nonjudgmental, and conversational. In our sessions, we work collaboratively to deepen insight, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful, sustainable change. I integrate relational therapy, mindfulness practices, and somatic awareness, and when appropriate, I also draw on spiritual or contemplative tools to support healing through the mind–body connection. I am committed to helping you cultivate greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and resilience, so you can move through life with more clarity, connection, and inner steadiness. I provide therapy in both English and Spanish, and my practice is grounded in culturally responsive care for clients across New York State.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a free phone consultation, where we address your questions, discuss your concerns, and explore whether working together feels like a good fit. I provide online therapy for clients in New York, allowing us to meet conveniently and consistently, typically once per week. The early sessions focus on clarifying your therapy goals, understanding your values, beliefs, relationships, and cultural context, and building a strong therapeutic relationship. I view trust and collaboration as the foundation of effective therapy, and I honor your autonomy as the expert in your own life. My role is to serve as a reflective and supportive partner, offering compassionate guidance while helping you uncover insights, strengthen self-awareness, and access the inner resources and resilience you already possess. Together, we work toward meaningful, sustainable change that supports emotional well-being and healthier relationships.
