Getting to know Robert Starkey

Life can be challenging, stressful, and uncertain—and it can also be meaningful, joyful, and beautiful. When you’re not feeling your best, or when you want to explore long-standing patterns, I offer a space where we can work together to bring more clarity, purpose, and fulfillment into your life. My approach As a clinician, I’m highly adaptable and collaborative. Sometimes our work may be proactive and focused on addressing current challenges; other times, we may go deeper to explore the roots of patterns that have been with you for some time. My focus Having worked as a psychologist for EAPs at the University of California for 10+ years, I am extremely adept at helping people navigate work issues and relational issues in general. I do tend to be more solution-focused, so if you are motivated for change, we can be a great fit. My communication style My approach is both curious and compassionate—I genuinely enjoy getting to know my clients and helping them better understand themselves. At the same time, many clients have described me as direct and solution-oriented, which can help create relief and momentum early in the process. My journey to mental healthcare I've known since I was in middle school that I wanted to be a psychologist. I read my brother's college psych 101 book, and it just clicked. The concepts introduced in the book just made sense to me in terms of how I understand people and how I think. My goals for you I believe therapy works best in a flexible, nonjudgmental, and supportive space where you can safely explore your experiences and view them from new perspectives. Together, we’ll find a balance between understanding yourself more deeply and challenging yourself to grow.
