About Dr. Sarah Kemmerer

Dr. Sarah Kemmerer earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Saint Louis University and completed an orthopedic residency at the University of Illinois Chicago. She is a board certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist, a credential from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties that requires thousands of hours of direct patient care and a rigorous exam, and that only a small fraction of physical therapists hold. Sarah treats the full range of orthopedic conditions, including the shoulder, knee, hip, ankle, foot, back, and neck, with particular focus on sports injuries, TMJ dysfunction, and vestibular and balance disorders. She has deep expertise in Achilles tendinopathy, partial tears, and full ruptures, guiding patients from early tendon protection through rebuilding calf strength, restoring normal gait, and returning to running and sport. She also treats low back pain from facet joint dysfunction, disc bulges and herniations, and scoliosis, looking at how patients move, sit, lift, and train to reduce pain and keep it from coming back. Sarah has extensive experience with hypermobility spectrum disorders and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), building stability, strength, and body awareness at a pace that respects how these patients’ tissues respond. She has researched and worked directly with college athletes recovering from orthopedic injuries, and brings that performance minded approach to every active patient, from marathoners to weekend pickup players. Her treatment blends manual therapy, dry needling, individualized exercise, gait analysis and retraining, and patient education, so you leave understanding your own body. Sarah has also been a patient herself, with a ruptured Achilles, a dislocated shoulder, and knee, hip, and back injuries, so she knows what a long rehab asks of a person. She wants every patient to feel genuinely heard and to leave feeling better than when they arrived.
