Psychologist
CA
My name is Tzu-Chen Cheng, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in San Luis Obispo, CA. I work with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a PsyD from Phillips Graduate University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. I work with adults experiencing challenges such as depression, anxiety, or other mental health difficulties, using Solution Focused Therapy and a Client-Centered approach to find solutions and explore deeper issues. My approach varies depending on the individual client and their concerns. I typically begin with a Solution Focused approach to identify solutions and build skills for navigating challenges. If issues persist and require deeper exploration, I shift to a Client-Centered approach to uncover underlying themes. I find this approach effective for adults facing life transitions, acculturation, and interpersonal difficulties that may manifest as depression, anxiety, or substance use. I help clients gain insight into these underlying issues and develop skills to manage them more effectively. My communication style is calm, empathic, and reflective. I strive to create a safe environment where clients feel supported and heard, while providing honest, nonjudgmental feedback. My journey into mental healthcare began with a deep interest in people and a desire to help them when they are hurting. Over time, I have learned to hold clients’ truths and allow them to feel truly heard. I find joy in witnessing clients as they learn to navigate life more effectively and grow into better versions of themselves. When setting goals, I collaborate with clients to identify what they want to address first. As trust develops and we continue working together, we establish new goals and track progress. It is common for goals to shift throughout our work together.
