About Dr. George Athansios
Dr. George Athansios is a highly experienced Periodontist and Implant Specialist dedicated to providing advanced periodontal care, dental implants, and regenerative treatments. With a strong foundation in general dentistry and periodontics, he combines clinical expertise, evidence-based practices, and a patient-centered approach to deliver optimal oral health solutions.
Dr. Athansios earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (formerly UMDNJ) and practiced as a General Dentist for 14 years before pursuing specialized training in Periodontology at Rutgers. His extensive experience allows him to provide comprehensive periodontal treatment, including gum disease management, bone regeneration, and implant placement.
A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Athansios is a Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) and holds the prestigious title of Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, and the New Jersey Dental Association (NJDA), where he serves as a Trustee on the Board. He also previously served as the President of the Essex County Dental Society.
Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr. Athansios is passionate about giving back to the community. He is a volunteer firefighter with Cedar Grove Township and actively participates in global dental mission trips, providing essential dental care to underserved communities in Bolivia, Guatemala, Thailand, Egypt, Kenya, and Ethiopia.

Had 6 upper teeth stubs pulled in preparation for an upper denture. Dr. George was amazing, a practically painless experience during the extractions and no pain after the novocaine wore off, just a bit of soreness, that evening, no problems afterwards: Call him "Dr. Painless"! Very satisfied!
