UpLift Behavioral Health providers do not issue prescriptions for substances controlled by any federal or state agency or other drugs that may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. UpLift Behavioral Health reserves the right to limit the types of medications that may be prescribed by its doctors and nurse practitioners. All prescriptions furnished by UpLift Behavioral Health care providers are issued in accordance with applicable federal and state law as well as UpLift Behavioral Health policy. Being a therapist is my second career; previously, I was a social worker for the Department of Elder Protective Services and a vocational rehabilitation manager, working with the legally blind population. I earned both my Bachelor's degree and Master's in Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno. What drew me to therapy was the ability to guide clients through adversity through the lens of a social worker, which means I look at the person through all systems. Rather than focusing solely on the individual level, I examine social and environmental systems. I have worked in numerous settings, including a residential rehabilitation center for youth, an inpatient psychiatric facility, and private practice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Being a therapist is my second career; previously, I was a social worker for the department of Elder Protective Services and a vocational rehabilitation manager, working with the legally blind population. What drew me to being a therapist was the ability to guide clients through adversity through the lens of a social worker, which means I look at the person through all systems. Rather than focusing solely on the individual level, I also look at social and environmental systems. I have worked in numerous settings, including a residential rehabilitation center for youth, an inpatient psychiatric facility, and private practice. Working in these three settings has developed my understanding of various demographics, mental health barriers, and diagnoses. It has also shaped me into being able to welcome change without ambivalence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am in the process of my Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). I do have to be clear that I am starting my IFS training, and I am not certified. IFS, or Internal Family Systems, is a therapeutic approach that focuses on exploring and understanding your internal system's different parts or aspects. In therapy, we will work together to identify and understand these other parts, their roles, and their influence on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. IFS therapy aims to help you develop a compassionate and nonjudgmental relationship with your different parts. Through exploration and dialogue, we will work on getting to know each part, understanding its purpose and function, and ultimately integrating these parts into a harmonious and cohesive internal system. In our sessions, we will use techniques such as guided visualization exercises, role-playing, and other methods to facilitate your exploration and dialogue with your parts. We must approach this process with an open and curious mindset as we uncover and work with different aspects of our internal world. While IFS therapy can be effective for many individuals, it may only suit some. It is essential for us to openly communicate about your goals, concerns, and preferences so that we can determine the most appropriate approach for your needs. I hold a certification as a financial social worker, which means that if financial stressors and concerns arise during therapy, we can address these issues. Financial stressors can significantly impact mental well-being, and I am prepared to integrate my expertise in financial social work into our therapy process if it is relevant and helpful for you. I must clarify that I am not a certified EMDR therapist currently, but I am trained in EMDR and have been practicing EMDR for nine years. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that focuses on processing and resolving traumatic or distressing experiences.
