What should a new client know about working with you?

Welcome! My name is Aleis Pugia, I am a Licensed Psychologist. I enjoy working with a diverse array of patients but have specialty training in trauma, perinatal mental health, anxiety, chronic pain & illness, and insomnia. Before I was a psychologist, I taught science. It is that background as a teacher that influences my therapeutic style with my patients today. My work with patients is collaborative, curious, and focuses on deepening your understanding of yourself and rebuilding trust in your body. I believe strongly in the mind-body connection. My goal for patients is to walk away from each session with a new understanding of themselves and specific tools to use in their daily lives. I often end my sessions with the question, "What did you learn today?". I ask this question for several reasons. First, therapy can be a big investment of your time. I want to make sure you are getting valuable skills and knowledge out of each session. Second, it takes courage to seek out help and be vulnerable about how you are doing. This question allows us to make sure we are on the same page, which allows us to build trust over time. Third, the former teacher in me cannot help checking in!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I currently offer weekly, telehealth therapy with adult and young adult clients. Once you schedule an appointment, we meet virtually for an intake session in which I learn more about you, how you are currently doing, and how you hope therapy can help you. This is also a time for you to get to know me and my style and figure out if we are the right fit. If it seems like we are a good fit, we start weekly therapy to help you accomplish your goals and start feeling better.
