Getting to know Alexa Casey

I am excited to be on the Sondermind platform. With over three decades of diverse clinical experience, a strong academic foundation, and a steadfast commitment to mental health and well-being, I am dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals, families, and groups. I aim to serve the unique needs of the community by offering tailored mental health services, from individual therapy to family interventions, while fostering resilience, healing, and personal growth. I want to focus on the following areas: relationship conflict and enhancement, self-development and improvement and assisting with climate anxiety issues. My academic journey is marked by a passion for understanding human behavior. I earned my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, with a focus on child and adolescent mental health. This was preceded by a Master of Arts in Guidance and Community Counseling from Eastern Michigan University, where I deepened my expertise in addressing community mental health challenges. My academic journey began at the University of Michigan, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, demonstrating an early dedication to understanding human experiences and narratives. I have spent my career serving diverse populations across a variety of settings, including hospitals, government institutions, universities, and private practices. My work spans clinical assessment, evidence-based therapy, program development, and multidisciplinary collaboration, which has provided a way for me to handle a wide range of psychological challenges. I have worked extensively with Veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. I have focused on mindfulness-based stress reduction and trauma and worked with the following over the time at VAMC: intensive day treatment therapy, CBT-D, Combat Stress, Childhood Trauma, Living with Chronic Illness Group and Readiness for Therapy Group. My leadership contributions include co-establishing a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Training Group and developing family-focused treatment protocols. In earlier roles with the VA, I supported medically fragile adults through in-home services and addressed complex psychological conditions, including dementia and substance abuse disorders. I have served a number of roles over these past 30 years and I look forward to working with you to address your specific challenges and find creative and unique ways to mental wellness. Feel free to reach out to me and see if I am a good fit for the work you need to do. Cheers.
