About Dr. Alexander Butler
Alexander J. Butler, MD is a spine surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and serves as Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He has experience treating conditions of the cervical (neck), thoracic, and lumbar spine (back).
Dr. Butler earned his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University. He completed his residency at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship at Rush University Medical Center. He was driven to a career in medicine by personal experience in navigating a spinal condition, treatment, and recovery. He has trained in the management of a wide range of spinal diagnoses with several preeminent leaders in the field from both orthopaedic and neurosurgical backgrounds.
As an active member of several professional societies committed to the advancement of spine care and surgery, Dr. Butler regularly publishes and presents research investigating minimally invasive spine surgery and surgical outcomes.
Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Butler lives with his wife and daughter in New York City. He enjoys golf, travel, and all aspects of physical and mental fitness.

Dr. Butler it’s truly dedicated to helping people. Dr. Butler went through my MRI all results and even explained by visual on computer what was happening with my back. We discussed in detail everything I need to know. All in all Dr. Butler gave me hope we’re there was none. I highly recommend him as there are very few doctors today to take the time that he did to literally change my world.

First time seeing Dr. Butler and he was fantastic. He took his time to show me what was going on with my body and listened to my concerns. He noticed that I was taking notes and he showed me how to reference information on my own after I inquired. I did not feel rushed and I would definitely recommend him in the future. The front desk attendant, the X-ray technician and the medical assistant were all quite professional as well. Overall it was a really good experience.

Regarding wait time- Upon my arrival which was within the 15 mins suggested before the actual appt time, I was immediately taken to the Imaging department and also immediately seen there. However, I believe I must have waited about 30 or more minutes after being put into the doctor's exam room to be seen. Not a dire issue for me but it would have been better if the staff would have notified me that the wait would be longer. With that said, Dr. Butler did not rush, he took the time to explain and discuss the best options in treatment, etc. I like that he seems to be very accessible. I would definitely refer him and recommend him to others

Honestly, I didn't expect such a kind doctor who sincerely cared. I usually am rushed in and out of hospitals and feel like I'm just livestock but Dr. Butler actually sat down, gave me his full attention and took the time to clearly and accurately explain everything to me with so much compassion. I really appreciated him- and his staff was so nice.

Dr Butler is an excellent listener and he seems really concern about your health asking you questions to decipher what is going on. He sends X-Rays and MRI to provide an accurate diagnosed. I highly recommend him, he’s truly caring.
