Getting to know Dr. Alfredo Massa Succar

Same-week appointments available for new patients. My training, along with personal experiences supporting people close to me through mental health and addiction challenges, has shaped the way I practice — with a deeper understanding of what patients may be going through. I completed medical school and Psychiatry training in New York, followed by an advanced fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine. I am board-certified in both General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry, with over 15 years of clinical experience. I work with adults experiencing conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, sleep difficulties, and alcohol or nicotine use. I also have experience helping patients who haven’t found the right approach in prior treatment. My style is practical, thoughtful, and individualized. I focus on helping you find strategies — including medication when appropriate — that align with your goals, daily life, and long-term well-being. Patients often value: • A calm, non-judgmental environment • Clear explanations and collaborative decision-making • Feeling genuinely heard and understood I believe a strong, trusting relationship is central to effective care. Seeking help can be difficult, but it’s often a meaningful first step toward change. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and able to make progress. I look forward to working with you to improve your well-being and overall quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New patients should know that our first visit is focused on understanding your full story — not just your symptoms. We’ll take time to review what you’ve been experiencing, what has or hasn’t worked in the past, and what your goals are moving forward. My approach is collaborative and straightforward. I’ll offer clear recommendations and explain the reasoning behind them, but decisions are always made together based on what feels right for you. Treatment may include medication, as well as guidance on therapy, habits, and other factors that support long-term improvement. I aim to create a calm, non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable being open and honest. Many patients come in after feeling rushed or not fully heard elsewhere, so I place a strong emphasis on listening and thoughtful follow-up. I also prioritize responsiveness and accessibility — including timely appointments and clear communication — so you’re not left waiting when you need support. Overall, the goal is to build a practical, sustainable plan that helps you feel better and function more effectively in your daily life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We typically begin with a comprehensive initial evaluation, where we take time to understand your symptoms, past treatment experiences, medical history, and what you’re hoping to improve. This helps us build a clear picture and avoid a one-size-fits-all approach. From there, we develop a personalized treatment plan together. This may include medication management when appropriate, along with recommendations around therapy, daily routines, sleep, and other factors that can meaningfully impact mental health. Follow-up visits are focused on tracking progress, making thoughtful adjustments, and ensuring that the plan continues to align with how you’re feeling and functioning over time. My approach is structured but flexible — some patients need more frequent support early on, while others prefer a more gradual, maintenance-focused approach. The overall goal is to create a clear, sustainable plan that helps you feel better and function more effectively in your daily life, while adjusting along the way as needed.
