Getting to know Dr. Alicia Salzer
Welcome and thank you for your interest in the practice. Please be advised we can't take any new clients with United, Oscar, UMR or Oxford. Even if you were told we are in network, your appointment will be cancelled because all spots for those are full.
About me: I am an experienced and empathic Psychiatrist with over 20 years of clinical experience. I trained at top schools such as Cornell Medical School, and Harbor UCLA.
Unlike other practices where sessions are very quick and focused mainly on prescribing, I take the time to understand what’s happening in your life and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges you face.
I utilize a highly interactive, structured approach in which we set goals and learn skills that will help you get back to the place you want to be.
Most of my patients are successful, educated, highly motivated people who suffer from Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Sleep Problems, Marital Issues, Sexual Issues, OCD, Substance abuse problems, or work/life balance challenges. We also provide ADHD testing.
I enjoy working with people who are turning over a new leaf, whether through career change or changes in marital status. I have extensive experience with IVF-related issues, LGBTQI-related concerns, and am supportive of people with non-traditional relationships and family structures.
I am the author of the book *Back To Life: Getting Past Your Past with Resilience, Strength and Optimism* and have appeared on CNN, Anderson Cooper, Dr. Salzer Oz, and many other TV and radio shows as an expert in the trauma field. However, my most meaningful work is done one-on-one with my clients.
My clients tell me I am warm, non-judgmental, good at explaining medical concepts, and that I make them feel hopeful and confident they are in good hands.
This practice is currently exclusively via TELETHERAPY/VIRTUAL.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My style is casual, direct and interactive. I listen keenly and ask questions to help my clients reflect and achieve clarity, believing fundamentally that you have the tools to find solutions and gain insight when supported along this path.
Cost per session for clients who do not have united healthcare is $450 payable at the time of the session by credit card. We can provide a superbill at the end of each moth for you to submit to your insurance if you have an out of network benefit for mental health.
Thank you
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I enjoy teaching about mental health and believe that by doing so, we become partners in decision-making, rather than me adopting a paternalistic style in which I am offering suggestions.
Regarding medications I offer education alongside 20 years of experience to advise you of what it will likely feel like to be on medications and what it may be like if they work as expected. Not all by patients take medications as I also am happy to work from a therapeutic approach as an alternative or in addition to prescribing.
Many of my clients request "homework" or at least something to work on and something to contemplate between sessions. This is often helpful to keep the topics we are working on front of mind in the time between sessions.
In-network insurances
Out-of-pocket fees and assistance

Self pay rates are set at $450/session.
At this time we are ONLY accepting new self pay clients who do NOT have United, Oxford, UMR or Oscar. If you have United, Oxford, UMR or Oscar please know all our insurance slots for those types of insurance are currently FULL so please DO NOT sign up as we will have to cancel your appointment.
All other clients will be self pay/out of network at $450/session.
Payment is made by credit card or HSA/FSA card at the time of service. We will provide a monthly superbill which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
