Dr. Amanda Tan is a licensed clinical psychologist. She provides psychological assessments for children and adults across the lifespan, and has done so in both hospital and private practice settings. She is experienced in thorough developmental clinical interviewing and a wide variety of assessment tools for cognitive, adaptive, emotional and personality functioning for children, adolescents, and adults. She is competent in diagnosing a range of psychopathology and has particular specialty areas in diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorders and developmental disabilities. As a mother, she understands that children, no matter how old, can face many challenges in learning or interacting with others. She actively collaborates with a child and their family or caregivers in creating an assessment plan tailored to a child’s specific needs. As an Asian female immigrant, she is sensitive to the interactions between systemic problems and the individual experiences of each client. When you work with her, you can expect a gentle but direct approach to exploring difficult issues and she can provide recommendations across systems (e.g. family, school) to address varying individual needs. What to expect: In a confidential and comfortable environment, children and their families participate in a thorough interview process to assess and evaluate the nature of the present concerns. A flexible testing battery (the instruments used for evaluation) is individualized for each child’s unique background and the goals of the assessment. At the conclusion of the evaluation, a feedback session is held with the parents and child to discuss information gathered during testing, overall impressions, and recommendations going forward. A comprehensive written report is also provided for each family. Note: Dr. Tan does not provide psychotherapy in our clinic, she provide psychological testing services only.
