Getting to know Dr. Angela Ryan

The world is chaotic and uncertain. Our own struggles, whether it be anxiety, depression, physical health challenges, life changes, or other concerns, certainly add to the mix. Its overwhelming and okay to ask for support to learn better ways of navigating life in general. I see each individual as the expert of their own life and utilize individual strengths to customize treatment. Together, we will work through the steps needed to live life in the most authentic and genuine way for YOU. I am a Licensed Psychologist in Florida and have been practicing since 2021. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Regent University. I work with ages 15 and up, addressing a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, and chronic illness. My experience spans community mental health, inpatient psychiatric facilities, and universities. Seeking out and starting therapy can be an understandably anxiety-provoking process. My passion is reducing the stigma around mental health and improving access to mental health care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Angela sees each individual as the expert of their own life and utilizes individual strengths to customize treatment. She believes that deep down, everyone knows what is best for them, but challenges or other barriers may prevent this from becoming reality. In her free time, Angela enjoys running, hockey, reading, and going for hikes with her two standard poodles!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

If this is your first time, or even if you are returning to therapy after time away, it is common to feel uncertain or confused about what to expect. We strive to remove the guesswork out of connecting to services and set you up for success no matter where you decide to continue your journey. Therapy often begins with an initial assessment, designed for you and your clinician to get to know each other better and set a good foundation to have future services be as helpful as possible. This initial assessment often takes about an hour and may not feel like what most people expect from therapy. Your clinician will ask a variety of questions to get to know you, your history, and what you are hoping to gain from your time in therapy. Of course, this is also a time for you to ask questions so you feel comfortable with your provider and feel confident that your needs match what your therapist can provide. Finding the right “fit” in a therapist may not always work with the first person you meet, and that’s okay! At the end of your initial assessment, your clinician will discuss with you resources and what to expect from sessions moving forward. Depending on your goals, sessions can occur weekly, every other week, or as frequently as you would like. Sessions moving forward are flexible and catered to you. Typically, these will start by checking in about how you have been doing since your last appointment and noting any changes. Then there is a mix of processing events, building skills, and a variety of other approaches depending on your needs.
