Psychologist
KS
I’m Anna Wray, M.S., LMLP, a Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist providing virtual therapy for adolescents, college students, and adults throughout Kansas. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, life transitions, relationship concerns, emotional distress, burnout, and substance use or recovery concerns. Many of the people I work with are used to holding things together for everyone else while struggling internally. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, anxious, disconnected from yourself, or unsure how to make the changes you know you need. Others come to therapy during a major transition or after realizing that the ways they have coped in the past are no longer working. My goal is to provide a space where you can talk openly without feeling judged while also receiving practical support that helps you move forward. Therapy with me is collaborative and individualized. I want to understand what you are experiencing, what matters to you, and what you would like your life to look like—not simply focus on a list of symptoms. My approach may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, person-centered strategies, and trauma-informed care. Rather than using the same approach with everyone, I draw from these methods based on your needs and goals. Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, particularly if you have never talked openly about what you are experiencing. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first session. We can start where you are and work together toward greater understanding, healthier coping strategies, resilience, and meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style as a therapist is warm, genuine, collaborative, and practical. I believe therapy should be a place where you can be honest about what you are experiencing without worrying about being judged or having to say the “right” thing. I will meet you where you are while also helping you identify areas where change may be helpful. I balance listening and understanding with practical guidance. Some sessions may involve exploring emotions, relationships, past experiences, or patterns that continue to affect you. Other sessions may be more focused on learning specific strategies for managing anxiety, stress, difficult emotions, communication, boundaries, or other challenges in your daily life. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate CBT, ACT, DBT skills, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, trauma-informed approaches, and person-centered therapy. I do not believe therapy should feel identical for every client, so we will work together to determine which approaches are most useful for you. You can expect me to be supportive while also encouraging growth. Therapy is not about someone else telling you how to live your life. It is an opportunity to better understand yourself, recognize patterns, develop healthier ways of coping, and make choices that are more consistent with the life you want. If you are nervous about your first appointment, that is completely okay. You do not need to arrive with a perfectly organized explanation of what is wrong or know exactly what you want to work on. Part of my role is helping you make sense of what you are experiencing and determine where we should begin.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is primarily about getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. We will discuss the concerns you are experiencing, relevant parts of your history, how those concerns are affecting your life, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy. I also want the first appointment to give you an opportunity to become comfortable with me and determine whether our working relationship feels like a good fit. From there, we will work together to identify goals for therapy. These goals may include reducing anxiety or depression, processing difficult experiences, managing stress, improving relationships or boundaries, navigating a life transition, developing healthier coping skills, addressing substance use or recovery concerns, or simply gaining a better understanding of yourself. A typical session is conversational and collaborative. We may begin by discussing what has happened since our last meeting and identifying what feels most important to focus on that day. Depending on your needs, sessions may involve exploring thoughts and emotions, identifying patterns, processing experiences, practicing coping or emotional regulation skills, challenging unhelpful thinking, or developing practical strategies you can use between sessions. I draw from approaches such as CBT, ACT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and trauma-informed care. I tailor these approaches to you rather than expecting you to fit into one particular therapy model. Throughout therapy, we will continue to look at your progress and adjust our goals when needed. My goal is for therapy to help you develop greater insight, practical coping skills, resilience, and confidence in managing challenges outside of our sessions.
