Cultivating a warm, accepting, collaborative, and safe environment is of the utmost importance to Dr. Yoneda, as she believes a strong therapeutic relationship is necessary for therapy to be effective. Throughout the course of therapy, Dr. Yoneda checks-in regularly with her clients and monitors their progress to ensure that therapy is on track and what changes, if any, should be made. The completion phase typically involves reviewing the client’s progress and the skills they have acquired, planning and problem-solving for the future, and processing various emotions that may arise. Upon completion of therapy, many of Dr. Yoneda’s clients report significant improvements to their mood, relationships, communication, as well as increased insight and emotional awareness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

A new client should know that working with me means being welcomed into a warm, accepting, and collaborative space where your experiences, values, and identities are respected and honored. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for meaningful change, and I strive to create a safe environment where you can explore difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace. I approach therapy using evidence-based practice, which means integrating scientific research, clinical expertise, and what matters most to you as the client. I am mindful of how culture, identity, and systemic factors shape our lives, and I use an intersectional, culturally responsive lens in my work. You can expect therapy with me to be thoughtful, structured, and flexible, with regular check-ins to ensure the process continues to meet your needs and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work with clients generally unfolds in three phases: initial, middle, and completion. In the initial phase, I take time to get to know you in a comprehensive way. We explore your background, current concerns, symptoms, cultural identities, values, strengths, and goals for therapy. Together, we identify what you would like to work toward and discuss evidence-based therapy options, collaboratively choosing the approaches that feel most relevant and helpful. The middle phase is where we spend the majority of our time actively working toward your goals. This often includes learning skills to better understand and shift patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as processing difficult experiences and emotions. I regularly check in on progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure therapy stays aligned with your needs. The completion phase focuses on reviewing your progress, strengthening the skills you’ve developed, and planning for the future. We also make space to process the emotions that may arise as therapy comes to a close. Many clients leave therapy feeling greater emotional awareness, improved mood and relationships, and increased confidence in their ability to navigate challenges moving forward.
