Getting to know Dr. Ayelet Hirshfeld
I am a Lacanian Psychoanalyst, a licensed clinical psychologist, and an EMDR therapist working with young adults, adults, executives, couples, and families. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, San Diego, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Stanford University Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS). I also earned my bachelor's degree from Tel Aviv University and completed the Healthcare Executive Program at University College London.
Among other roles, I have served as a founder of companies, including in the tech sector, and understand the incredible toll and joy that startup life brings. I also serve on the advisory boards of several companies.
I am a trauma expert, well-versed in treating PTSD, dissociation, derealization, depersonalization, secondary stress, compassion fatigue, and vicarious traumatization.
I have authored manuscripts in child psychoanalysis, psychosomatic conditions, trauma, and secondary stress. I have also co-authored and implemented a Brief Lacanian Treatment Model and a "Lacanian Approach" model for organizations and individuals. Additionally, I offer a weekly Lacanian seminar for clinicians to advance their knowledge of Lacanian and Freudian theory and practice.
My research experience includes extensive work at the PTSD Research Program, SFVA/UCSF. I have consulted on the Brief Lacanian Analysis Project at MMH, served as adjunct clinical faculty at CIIS, and held faculty and vice president roles at the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis (LSP).

What is your typical process for working with clients?
Once appointment request is received and confirmed, initial paperwork will be sent to fill out prior to the appointment as well as keep a credit card on file via a secure patient portal invitation sent to your email & a payment for the session will be processed to hold your time. Please note that both in person and virtual sessions are offered and the type of appointment booked will be confirmed.
