Psychologist
NY
Hello, my name is Dr. Bonnie Floyd, I'm a clinical health psychologist. I've obtained my M.A., in Behavioral Medicine from Connecticut College. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology from a program jointly offered by the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology/Albery Einstein College of Medicine. My main interest in helping clients with chronic medical conditions to achieve an optimal quaility of life. Chronic illness introduces multiple changes in each client's everyday life. It can be most overwhelming to attempt to cope with these changes on your own. Many clients with chronic illness need a compassionate, supportive clinician to help them to better adjust to living with a long-term medical condition. I have close to twenty-five years of experience as a clinical psychologist. In addition to my work with chronic illness, I have extensive experience with clients suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders; life transitions, grief and loss; pain management; substance abuse; parenting challenges; and, employment issues. My theoretical orientation is primarily Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This form of therapy assists clients with correcting unhealthy thought patterns in order to promote decreased anxiety and depression, along with the formation of healthier behaviors. I frequently assign homework to assist a client's progress with incorporating CBT practices into their everyday lives. For example, with a depressed client, I often recommend that he/she begin to keep a "Gratitude Journal." This habit helps to lessen the chance of always thinking negative thoughts in a situation. I look forward to working with you through Sondermind!
