Getting to know Dr. Candace Giles

Dr. Giles is a triple-board certified child/adolescent, adult, and forensic psychiatrist working in outpatient psychiatry since August 2018. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Howard University, completed her residency in General Psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by a Child Psychiatry fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a Forensic Psychiatry fellowship at Emory University. In 2021, she founded her mental health company, PsychSynergy Practices, LLC, and also works as an independent contractor conducting psychiatric evaluations and treatment for other organizations. Dr. Giles is a genuine person who promises transparency while providing comprehensive, compassionate, and collaborative care tailored to your needs. She uses a biopsychosocial approach to understand patients and deliver the best care. She believes treatment involves tools beyond pharmacotherapy and enjoys engaging with the systems surrounding each patient, including family, school, work, and specialty healthcare providers. She specializes in treating children, adolescents, and adults ages 5-55 with depression, bipolar and mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, psychosis, disruptive behaviors, eating issues, and sleep-wake disorders. Dr. Giles is licensed only in Georgia and provides care exclusively to Georgia residents. While telepsychiatry offers convenience, some visits—especially those involving controlled medications—require in-person appointments. During her training, Dr. Giles served on over 18 committees, was a Session Moderator for the APA annual meeting, a mentee in the APA Summer Mentoring Program, and an Instructor in Emory University’s Summer Science Academy. She has published two articles and presented five multidisciplinary posters at conferences. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, attending concerts and festivals, watching movies, and hosting game nights.

I was surprised by the questions she asked, no one ever took the time out to really get to the core of things as she did.

She typed the whole time while asking me questions. I told her i always felt anxious and I’m worried about my anxiety. After 45 mins of questions she told me that i have anxiety and slapped a Prozac presecription my way. Geee..... thanks.

She is very friendly and approachable. My son has been seeing her for over a year and he’s come so far. She has a great relationship with him and he feels comfortable opening up to her.

Spent 45 minutes opening up about my trauma, then no actual counseling, just wrote a ‘script and said goodbye. Now I’m feeling worse than before and have to wait 3 weeks before receiving more “counseling”.

Dr. Giles is very insightful and provided excellent guidance and recommendations on my daughter's first appointment. She has excellent bedside manner and I would highly recommend her to others.
Dr. Giles was very attentive and focused on making sure that she provided excellent care. She was kind and a good listener, making sure that I was able to fully explain myself before moving on to other questions or giving feedback on the answers i provided.
Dr.Giles is so warm, genuine, and compassionate. I had to share a lot of tough things with her and was really nervous for this appointment but she was tremendously empathetic and understanding. I would recommend her to anyone. The 1.5 hour drive to get here was well worth it.
She doesn’t listen to your needs, and continues to bother you about your weight even if you have had an eating disorder in the past.
    She was very helpful.
    Very thorough! Good first appt.

Dr. Giles was opened and listened
She seemed very judgmental and assuming, regardless of what I told her about my history, preferences or needs. Completely impersonal, and made me feel very uncomfortable to the point of me not wanting to continue as a patient under her care. Will never recommend her to anyone, ever.
Very professional. Very thorough about knowing your history and finding ways to help improve overall quality of your mental health.
