Dr. Chaim Tarshish, PhD

Psychologist
26 Court Street, Suite 709, Brooklyn, NY
My goal in working with you is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable sharing the issues that bother you. Life often brings challenges we are not always prepared for-whether related to a medical condition, family issues, or the loss of a loved one. Sometimes, it involves finding comfort in the life we have built and navigating the expectations of the community we live in. Together, we will identify your personal goals and strengths as you develop a plan to manage these life challenges. I work with adults and have experience supporting those who feel pressure to conform to community expectations. I also work with patients diagnosed with diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, as well as their families. My background includes a PhD in Psychology from the City University of New York, Graduate Center, and a bachelor's degree from Hunter College, City University of New York. I have worked in various settings providing support, therapy, and guidance to individuals. Additionally, my experience as a cognitive neuroscientist working with older patients and those with different illnesses has given me a deep understanding of how disease affects self-perception and impacts family and friends.

What should a new client know about working with you?

We are all individuals and the reasons we come to therapy is for assistance in helping us to realize feelings and emotions that we have are both unique to us as individuals but also experiences by different individualls and never something to be ashamed about. It takes a great amount of strength for us as individuals to talk about our feelings, especially these days when there are so many different types of pressures put on each of us. My goal is always to work with you to help you explore and understand your feelings and why they exist. I try to provide a safe environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and where both of us can work together to help you feel more comfortable with this thing we call life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once you contact me, I will setup a 15-minute TeleHealth meeting so that we can meet and you can determine if you would like to work with me. If you decide that you would like to work with me. 1. We will setup an appt for our first session. The first session is 60 minutes and we will review the intake and also discuss future sessions. 2. Please fill out the intake forms. 3. I process insurance claims through a company called HeadWay. You will recieve a link from the company requesting your insurance information and it will be verified. This also protects you so that you are sure that your insurance will cover therapy costs. 4. After our first session, you will be offered the option for Telehealth and/or in-person sessions. Regular sessions are 45 minutes.
